Head of Engineering Job Purpose

The Head of Engineering is a key leadership role, responsible for overseeing all engineering operations within the Energy from Waste (EfW) facility. This role ensures optimal plant performance through effective engineering strategies, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards. Key Responsibilities

Engineering Leadership:

Lead and manage all aspects of the facility’s engineering operations, ensuring equipment availability and reliability. Collaborate with Plant Managers to implement tactical and strategic initiatives to optimize production capabilities. Drive a culture of innovation and continuous improvement across the engineering team.

Maintenance and Operations: Develop and manage the preventative maintenance plan to ensure plant efficiency and minimize downtime. Oversee turbine and high-voltage maintenance activities. Ensure the effective use of root cause analysis to address recurring issues and implement sustainable solutions.

Budget and Resource Management: Manage the engineering budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness and alignment with operational goals. Balance the use of in-house engineering expertise with contractors to meet operational demands.

Project Management: Scope, plan, and execute engineering projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget. Assist in the preparation and delivery of capital investment proposals aligned with strategic objectives.

Compliance and Standards: Ensure all engineering activities comply with quality, environmental, and health and safety regulations. Drive adherence to company policies and industry best practices.

Team Development: Lead, develop, and mentor the engineering team to enhance their skills and capabilities. Foster a collaborative and high-performing work environment. Head of Engineering Qualifications and Experience

Education:

Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related discipline) or equivalent qualification.

Experience: Extensive experience in an engineering leadership role, ideally in a 24-hour operational environment. Proven experience in recycling, energy, or manufacturing industries. Familiarity with turbine and high-voltage maintenance (highly desirable). Demonstrated success in managing engineering budgets and implementing preventative maintenance plans.

Skills and Attributes: Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a proactive and solution-focused mindset. Effective oral and written communication skills, capable of engaging with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. Highly motivated, resilient, and determined to drive change and deliver results.
