Rochdale, Lancashire We are currently seeking an experienced and passionate Head of English to lead our department at a specialty SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school in Rochdale, Lancashire. This is a vital role within our committed team, requiring a dedication to not only education but to the social and emotional well-being of our students. Key Responsibilities:

Lead the English department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning that engages and challenges students, helping them achieve their full potential. Develop and implement an English curriculum that is appropriate for SEMH students at both KS3 and KS4 levels. Plan, deliver, and evaluate interactive and differentiated lessons that cater to a wide range of abilities and needs. Utilize a trauma-led approach to support the social and emotional development of students within the subject area. Monitor and assess student progress, implementing intervention strategies where necessary. Manage and support department staff members, coordinating continuous professional development to maintain high teaching standards. Foster a culture of high expectations and establish a positive learning environment in all English classes. Liaise with other department heads and the senior leadership team to contribute to whole-school improvement. Maintain up-to-date records of all teaching activities and student progress. Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders regarding student progress and departmental updates. Ensure compliance with school policies, including safeguarding and health and safety regulations. Qualifications and Experience Required:

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK. Bachelor’s Degree in English or a closely related field. Substantial experience teaching English, preferably within an SEMH setting or with students with additional needs. Experience of leading a department or willingness to take on a leadership role within education. In-depth knowledge of the English National Curriculum and the ability to plan for both KS3 and KS4. Enhanced DBS on the update service or willing to undergo checks. A resilient, empathetic, and flexible approach to teaching and leading. Ideal Candidate Will:

Have proven ability to work with students who face barriers to learning due to social, emotional, or mental health issues. Exhibit strong leadership skills, with a track record of managing and motivating a team. Demonstrate excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Be adept at using innovative teaching methods and resources tailored to SEMH learners. Salary and Benefits:
