CK Group are recruiting for a Head of Haematology, to join an independent diagnostic laboratory in the animal health industry, at their site based in Lancashire, on a permanent basis.

This role is located in Lancashire and is site based.

Role:

Responsible for the daily running of the laboratory department and the organisation and supervision of the laboratory staff to deal with workload demands. Produce and maintain a training plan for the team and ensure their staff are adequately trained for efficient running of the laboratory. Responsible for Health and Safety requirements and work as part of the laboratory site management team in order to execute the efficient operation of the laboratory and works standardisation of procedures across sites. Lead the teaching and training of all technical aspects of Haematology and be responsible for the general maintenance, calibration and quality control of automated, semi-automated equipment in Haematology and the installation, integration and monitoring of new equipment and technologies. Troubleshoot, using knowledge of analytical issues to resolve problems due to sample, reagent and instrument limitations. Establish and validate methods of examination of samples, liaising with the Head of Operations, Quality Manager and customer facing teams as necessary to ensure best practice for sample handling and analysis. Supervise the maintenance schedules, records of service and daily monitoring records of equipment and the environment to ensure equipment is functioning correctly and results produced are accurate. Manage calibration status of equipment. Supervise the stocks of reagents and consumables and their correct storage. Responsible for the production and maintenance of written Standard Operating Procedures and compliance with these to ensure the quality of results. Investigate Non-conforming work, EQA poor performance etc. and implement and develop improvement to systems and procedures. Your Background:

Educated to degree level or above in Biomedical Science or equivalent - registration with the Healthcare Professions Council as a Biomedical Scientist is desirable but not essential. Significant relevant laboratory experience in Haematology and experience of UKAS assessments or equivalent. Detailed understanding of the important elements of laboratory diagnostic testing and the ability to trouble shoot and problem solve. Leadership/supervisory experience and excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal. Excellent attention to detail. Strong organisational skills and the ability to multi-task.
