Swindon Borough Council are currently seeking a Head of Highways & Transportation. As a key member of the Director of Operations Senior Management Team, you will work closely with colleagues in the Operations Department and engage with internal and external stakeholders to deliver high-performing services aligned with the Council's vision, priorities, and pledges. This is a contract position, providing a fantastic opportunity for someone with significant experience in high-level transport and infrastructure management.

Key Responsibilities: Providing strategic leadership and management for a portfolio of transport services. Developing and implementing a coordinated strategic infrastructure delivery strategy. Leading statutory and regulatory activities to maintain a safe, efficient, and effective transport network. Ensuring services contribute to Council priorities and pledges, embedding the Council's culture, behaviours, and values. Managing and delivering the Council's statutory compliance across Highways and Transportation services. Taking strategic responsibility for large revenue, staff budgets, and capital investment programmes. Identifying and securing external funding sources to deliver key strategic infrastructure projects. Coordinating and managing external consultants and partners effectively.

Job Requirements: Experience in leading and managing highways and transportation operations. Proficiency in strategic planning and infrastructure delivery. Strong understanding of statutory and regulatory requirements in the transport sector. Excellent leadership and motivational skills with the ability to develop and inspire teams. Significant experience in budget management and financial planning. Ability to provide strategic technical advice on highways and transportation issues. Strong collaborative skills to work with senior officers, elected members, and external stakeholders. Compliance with performance management systems and HR policies.
