1st September 2025 We are seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic and self-motivated teacher to join our teaching team within our unique Independent Day School. About Us: At Chard Prep School we pride ourselves on providing a nurturing and stimulating environment where every child is encouraged to reach their full potential. Our classes are capped at 14 for the core subjects and 18 for those that require larger groups to be successful (i.e. sports and music). Our small prep school offers a close-knit community with dedicated staff, engaged students, and supportive parents. The Role: We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Music Teacher to join our dedicated team. The successful candidate will lead the teaching of music across the entire school, from Nursery through Year 6. This position also offers the potential for additional hours if you are able to provide private music tuition. As our school continues to grow, we are planning to expand our provision to include Year 7 and Year 8. Therefore, the ideal candidate will feel confident and capable of teaching these age groups as well. Key Responsibilities: Plan and deliver engaging music lessons for pupils across all year groups, ensuring the curriculum meets the developmental and educational needs of each stage. Develop and implement a comprehensive music curriculum that aligns with the school’s ethos and prepares students for any relevant exams or assessments. Foster a love of music by introducing students to a variety of genres, instruments, and cultural traditions. Provide opportunities for practical music-making, including singing, instrumental skills, and music technology. Organise and direct school ensembles, such as choirs, orchestras, or bands, ensuring opportunities for students to perform regularly. Coordinate and oversee all school musical events, including concerts, recitals, and special performances. Lead the preparation and performance of music for key school events, such as assemblies, celebrations, and seasonal concerts (e.g., Christmas or end-of-year productions). Manage and oversee any individual music tuition programs, including liaising with peripatetic music teachers if applicable. Identify and nurture talented pupils, encouraging participation in competitions, exams, and external performance opportunities. Contribute to the school’s vision for growth, particularly with the planned extension to Year 8, by developing a strategic plan for the music department. Explore opportunities for the school to participate in external partnerships or music events, enhancing the school’s reputation for excellence in music education. Provide pastoral support to students, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for all. Communicate effectively with parents, providing regular updates on their child’s progress and well-being. Participate in school events, extracurricular activities, and the broader school community. Strong organisational and leadership skills, particularly in managing school productions. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Adaptability:

Flexible and willing to contribute to various aspects of school life. You will be expected to run one school club each week and attend various FOCs (Friends of Chard School) and whole school events outside of the working work (around 4-5 in total each year). Desirable: Previous involvement in school productions or extracurricular activities. Familiarity with the independent school sector.
