The Head of Nursing for Care Group 2 will provide expert objective nursing leadership across the Care Group, supporting patient safety and care, supporting the delivery of high quality care throughout surgical specialities. This includes both elective and non-elective care. This role, along with the Care Group Director and General Manager will be required to work closely together to lead the surgical teams, transforming and delivering surgical services to the people of Rotherham. The post holder is responsible for oversight of delivery of safe, effective, well led, responsive care. Main duties of the job As the Head of Nursing for our surgical Care Group you will: Work as part of the Care Group 2 Triumvirate to manage the Care Group. Support the General Manager in delivering services within a robust financial management model, including the delivery of both local and Trust-wide cost improvement initiatives. Ensure that all relevant quality and performance standards are consistently achieved. Ensure the provision and strategic development of a modern, patient-focused service. Provide a visible senior management presence to all services within the Care Group. Work with the Chief Nurse and other Executive colleagues to deliver the Trusts corporate objectives and reflect the Trusts core values. Support and take part in the Silver Command On Call Rota.

Person Specification Knowledge Essential Equivalent level of knowledge acquired without formal course of study. Sound understanding of current NHS agenda, challenges and developments. Understanding the external context in which surgical speciality services are delivered.

Desirable Policies, practices and procedures e.g. NHS national policies, standards, requirements and directions that relate to measuring and improving the quality and safety of patient care.

Experience Essential Recruitment and selection experience. Presenting complex information to large groups. Senior leadership experience in a large complex organisation. Substantial leadership and management experience with evidence of achievement. Experience of financial management. Evidence of managing human resources issues successfully. Experience of leading and managing substantial change. Experience of preparing and presenting reports.

Qualifications Essential Masters in health / nursing related Studies or equivalent level of knowledge & experience. Formal Management qualification or equivalent level of knowledge and experience. Evidence of strong and recent commitment to continuous development.

Desirable Relevant learning beyond registration.

Registration Essential Current Adult Nursing NMC registration.
