Overall Purpose of the Role

The Head of Procurement within the Foodbuy’s NHS Supply Chain (NHSSC) team is to work collaboratively with the Business Director and NHS Leadership Team to define, lead and deliver the overarching strategy, business objectives and KPI’s for the NHS contract. This role will direct all procurement and supplier management strategies across all of the frameworks covering over £200m in spend.

Key Responsibilities Lead the procurement function to plan, develop and execute procurement activity that delivers year on year increased savings, savings retention and category growth. Deliver best in class supplier management strategies to maximise the value of NHSSC to NHS Trusts and grow our market share. Ensure compliance to Public Contract Regulations, Government Procurement Policy Notes and NHS England policies e.g. Net Zero Roadmap. Work closely with the Head of Business Development and Customer Engagement to implement best in class procurement activity in Trusts. Work closely with Finance to monitor progress and deliver commercial targets. Work closely with the operations team to support value-added services to Trusts. Build strong working relationships with key client stakeholders to build credibility and promote Foodbuy’s value as a Category Management Service Provider. Energise, inspire and develop a large, diverse and geographically spread team of 24 individuals (4 direct reports) to operate with pace, passion and resilience. Build a high performing team culture and position NHSSC as a destination for talent both internally and externally. Represent NHSSC: Food at industry events and forums to build awareness and credibility.

Candidate Profile: Extensive experience of complex supplier, distributor and client stakeholder management. Experience of public sector procurement and legislation. Experience in leading a high performing commercial team and delivering results. A strong decision maker, with great commercial acumen. A resilient leader who works well under pressure. Solid analytical skills, with an ability to manage and interpret data to make effective decisions. Ability to influence senior level stakeholders. A dynamic & creative leader that can define a long term vision for success whilst delivering tangible progress short, medium & long term. A collaborative team player that brings people together to deliver results. Motivates, sets the pace & inspires.
