Business Analytics Team Overview:

The Business Analytics Team is responsible for the critical analysis of inventions and the definition of their commercial potential, developing a detailed and reasoned case for commercialisation and the documentation required to support commercialisation activities. Overview:

This role will be fulfilled by an experienced and skilled life sciences or science & engineering professional who will act as a leader within the organisation, with the capability, skills, and gravitas to work across the business as well as outwardly across the wider business and externally. The role will involve working within an innovative and commercial environment to provide leadership on scientific developments, managing and inspiring direct reports and cross-functional team members. This role will lead the Business Analytics team in carrying out robust and critical analysis of projects in stage 2 through to stage 3, to support licensing transactions and the creation of business plans for spin-out companies. This will be achieved through the development of business plans and the provision of detailed documentation that highlight why an invention addresses an unmet need and has significant commercial competitive advantage over existing technologies. Key Tasks & Responsibilities: Programme and Portfolio Management:

Development and efficient and timely delivery of a balanced project portfolio through a considered and aligned Programme Stream. Technology Commercialisation:

Assessment of market opportunity through understanding the unmet need, the value of the invention in comparison to other solutions and competitor products, and the market. People Management:

Line management responsibility for a team of life science / science & engineering / digital project managers. Programme Delivery:

Work with and support Project Managers on the delivery of projects, ensuring all projects have plans with clearly defined milestones and deliverables that address the key risks as a priority. Skills, Experience & Qualities: Essential: Strong scientific experience within a life science or science & engineering discipline. Demonstrates knowledge and experience of the critical enablers and impediments in bringing new technologies to market. Experience of technology commercialisation is essential; commercial deal-making specifically in the areas of IP licensing and investment would be beneficial. Broad commercial experience in life science / science & engineering / digital related sectors. An ability to develop and present commercially compelling business cases that maximize deal value. Well informed about innovative technology developments, market and investment trends in the life science / science & engineering / digital sector. Analytical, detail-oriented, and thinks broadly about the commercial impact before making decisions. Experience of managing and developing programmes of complex projects. Ideally experience of project portfolio management and reporting. Proven experience working within a target-driven business environment. Builds strong collaborative relationships with inventors, colleagues, and both internal and external stakeholders. Proven track record of managing, developing, and leading individuals and teams within a project environment. Has the gravitas to be credible with investor contacts, senior academics, and company peers. Promotes collaborative behaviours across the company and the wider environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Works within time and cost constraints appropriate to the project. Qualifications: Essential: Higher degree in a life science or science & engineering (or equivalent) related subject. Desirable: A business management qualification.
