The Head of Technology role plays a pivotal role in supporting and advising on strategic initiatives within our Transformation program. Operating at a strategic level, the role holder will be tasked with driving transformational change at an accelerated pace and overseeing the intricate priorities of transformation initiatives across the organization and will influence shape and prioritise the technology strategy and change roadmap for TMS. The role will oversee the design, development and delivery of market leading technology solutions which support operational efficiency and provide clients with compelling capabilities that set TMS apart from its competitors.

The Head of Technology is a critical role in the success of the business. This role will build and lead a team of technology professionals known for providing an excellent service to internal and external customers and ensure the ongoing performance and integrity of the company’s technology infrastructure and evolving capabilities.

Role Responsibilities:

  1. Understand customer and market challenges, stakeholder priorities and competitive offerings and translate where innovation and value can be added by technology.
  2. Develop the technology roadmap for the business, ensuring it is aligned to strategic priorities and ultimately supports a compelling differentiated proposition to TMS customers.
  3. Identify and clearly articulate current and planned capabilities and business benefits provided by the technology roadmap.
  4. Develop an organisational structure and team which provides excellent day to day support for the business and effective delivery of the technology roadmap.
  5. Deliver results through strong leadership of their team and through clear and robust operational metrics.
  6. Ensure regular and timely updates on technology strategy and efficient delivery of projects supporting development of the technology platform by utilising DS Smith IT delivery framework.
  7. Ensure adherence to local (TMS) and Group (DS Smith) IT policies and procedures, providing visibility of compliance through reporting.
  8. Ensure policies, procedures and processes are thoroughly documented and maintained.
  9. Ensure services are managed and delivered to SLAs and supported by Business Continuity plans.
  10. Manage CAPEX budget for platform development and OPEX budget for labour, hardware, software and other IT operating costs.
  11. Manage relationships and contracts with key technology partners.
  12. Provide subject matter expertise for technical solutions, offering this experience, where appropriate, across the TMS business and its clients.

What we would like to see:

  1. Experience of the Print, POS and/or Packaging industries and associated technologies.
  2. Designing technology propositions and infrastructure which support accelerated business growth.
  3. Development of technology roadmaps.
  4. Full lifecycle experience of technology projects.
  5. Developing organisational structures.
  6. Building high performing teams.
  7. Supporting Business Development initiatives.
  8. Budget management.
