Head of Technology Strategy


The Role:

We are looking for a Head of Technology Strategy to join our Leadership Team in Life Technology.

The ability to deliver our strategic goals and build a business for the future is underpinned by the need for a coherent, joined up technology, digital and data strategy, which is supported and driven to outcome through our Business Analysis capability.

This specific role will see you join the Life and Wealth Leadership Team to provide leadership for the Business Analysis and Strategy function. Reporting into the Life Technology Director, you will be accountable for forming a coherent strategy across our Digital, Data and AI priorities and ensure the Business Analysis capability is the vessel to deliver this strategy, across the following constituent parts:
  1. Technology strategy: Define a tech strategy that drives innovation across Life Technology
  2. Data strategy: Define a Life data strategy that appropriately strengthens the foundational data layer of the business, in particular around data quality, completeness, governance, architecture and enables advanced data analytics and self-service capabilities
  3. Digital Strategy: Define the digital tools and channels that will be leveraged to improve customer outcomes and experience, working closely with business stakeholders to develop a digital strategy that enables world-class digital customer experience
  4. AI strategy: Define a clear AI strategy identifying opportunities, enabling and educating the business to approach AI adoption in both a risk-controlled and benefits-driven manner, coupled with education and showcasing compelling use cases to spur further exploration

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Ownership for defining, in partnership with Heads of Technology, a coherent digital, tech & data strategy that encompasses the constituent parts that can be practically applied into the Life business operating model
  2. Develop relevant business case for implementation of new business capabilities within the tech, digital and data space, for presentation to appropriate committees and influence buy-in
  3. Define roadmap and delivery plan to achieve strategy, working closely with the Director of IT and other Heads of roles to prioritise and drive through to delivery
  4. Proactively identify innovation opportunities across Life, keeping abreast of market disruption, trends, new and emerging technologies, and engaging with broader technology and third-party partners
  5. Accountable for the end-to-end technical solutions within Life and Wealth Technology from high-level technical roadmap to business and technical design within the teams
  6. Engage with their counterparts within the Technology organisation to ensure that technical strategy is aligned with Enterprise Architecture
  7. Responsible for the coordination of innovation opportunity identification and funnel/pipeline management
  8. Create a strong connection between strategy, business analysis and outcomes by creating a BA Operating Model that supports this
  9. Drive continuous improvement to feed into overall strategy, through process and feedback loop supported by metrics
  10. Collaborate with our Technical teams and Tech Design Hub to create a cohesive approach to innovation and strategy, partnering with Tech Design Hub and the Studio to deliver strategic outcomes
  11. Key contributor to Leadership Team owning initiatives across overall Life and Wealth Technology priorities forming connections with other Heads of to achieve these
  12. Organise and Lead Business Analysis function:
    • Assess and improve TOM to align with strategic objectives and in line with industry standards
    • Define appropriate tools and methodologies
    • Facilitate BA community fostering common ways of working
    • Provide people and talent management, driving engagement
    • Create and supply metrics that measure success and support continuous improvements
    • Define Third party usage strategy
    • Provide Business Analysis capability aligned to feature teams and more broadly across value streams to support from discovery work through to requirements and delivery phases, identifying problems and opportunities and providing recommendations which support strategic business objectives
    • Ensure Business Analysts act as primary contacts with business stakeholders for acceptance of solutions, ensuring those meet business outcomes and objectives
    • Provide expert skill to investigate problems and identify opportunities within our products and services
