This is an exciting opportunity within our Health and Safety Department based at our Woolpit Depot. Health and Safety Assistant Responsibilities: Administrative Support

Maintain accurate and up-to-date health and safety records, such as:

Risk assessments. Incident and accident reports. Training logs and certifications.

Prepare and distribute safety-related documentation, such as policies, procedures, and guidelines. Schedule and coordinate meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions.

Conduct Inspections and Audits

Carry out routine workplace inspections to identify hazards, unsafe practices, or non-compliance. Support the preparation and documentation of audit findings and corrective actions. Monitor the condition of equipment, tools, and facilities to ensure they meet safety standards.

Assist with Risk Assessments

Help in the development and review of risk assessments and method statements (RAMS). Ensure risks are identified, assessed, and managed in accordance with company policies and legal requirements. Provide recommendations to minimise workplace hazards.

Promote Safety Awareness

Distribute health and safety communications, such as posters, newsletters, and safety alerts. Participate in safety campaigns and initiatives to raise awareness among employees. Encourage employees to report unsafe conditions and suggest improvements.

Incident Reporting and Investigation

Assist in the reporting and recording of workplace incidents, accidents, and near-misses. Support investigations into incidents to identify root causes and recommend preventive measures. Ensure that incident records are complete and stored securely.

Training and Induction

Assist in organising and delivering health and safety training for new and existing employees. Provide basic health and safety inductions for new staff and contractors. Maintain training records and ensure all employees are up to date with required certifications.

Monitor Compliance

Ensure adherence to health and safety policies, procedures, and regulations across the organisation. Conduct follow-ups on corrective actions to address non-compliance issues. Support external audits and inspections by regulatory bodies. Assist in the development and maintenance of emergency response plans. Participate in drills and exercises, such as fire drills or evacuation scenarios. Ensure emergency equipment, such as first aid kits and fire extinguishers, is available and properly maintained.

Stay Updated on Health and Safety Regulations

Keep up to date with changes in health and safety laws, standards, and best practices. Assist in updating policies and procedures to reflect new regulations.

Collaborate with Stakeholders

Work closely with employees, contractors, and management to promote a culture of safety. Act as a point of contact for health and safety queries and concerns. Support the Health and Safety Manager or Officer in delivering the overall safety strategy.

Key Goals Minimise risks and hazards in the workplace. Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation. Promote a proactive approach to health and safety among all staff. Health and Safety Assistant Requirements: Basic qualifications such as GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths are expected. No prior experience required; focus on transferable skills, attributes, and a willingness to learn. For the right candidate, the company is willing to facilitate completion of IOSH Working Safely and NEBOSH General Certification. Basic Health and Safety Knowledge.
