Full-time, Temporary with Potential for Permanent Role Overview An Alternative Provision School in Birkenhead is seeking a dedicated and passionate Health and Social Care Teacher to join their team. This full-time role offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact on students who have struggled in mainstream education, delivering engaging lessons that inspire and empower Key Stage 3 and 4 students. Key Duties and Responsibilities: Plan and deliver high-quality lessons in Health and Social Care tailored to the needs of students with diverse learning abilities and educational barriers. Assess, monitor, and report on student progress, setting achievable goals to ensure academic development. Adapt teaching strategies to support students’ social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. Develop and maintain a safe, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment. Collaborate with colleagues, support staff, and external agencies to implement effective learning plans and interventions. Build strong, positive relationships with students, helping them overcome barriers to learning and fostering trust. Uphold the school’s ethos of creating a supportive and respectful environment for all students. Contribute to the wider school community, participating in staff meetings, training, and extracurricular activities where appropriate. Person Specification: The ideal candidate will: Be resilient, empathetic, and passionate about supporting students with additional needs. Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build strong, trusting relationships with students, staff, and parents. Be adaptable and creative in their teaching approach, understanding that no two students are the same. Have experience working in alternative provisions or with students who have faced challenges in mainstream education (desirable). Demonstrate a calm and patient demeanour, with the ability to manage challenging behaviour effectively. Be committed to helping students develop both academically and personally, enabling them to reach their full potential. Qualifications and Experience: A teaching qualification (QTS or equivalent) is required. Experience teaching Health and Social Care or a similar subject at secondary level. Knowledge of SEMH needs and strategies to support students with these challenges is highly desirable.
