Overview The role involves supporting young people who have been admitted and to engage in treatment around managing their mental health and risk. The average length of stay for young people is around 6-8 weeks during which time the young person and their family are offered treatment to support safe discharge back to the community. Young people admitted to the unit may engage in behaviors often associated with mental distress such as self-harm, agitation, suicidal thoughts and intrusive thoughts. The team operates 24/7, and shifts that will be worked include: Earlies, Lates, Long days, and nights. Responsibilities Support the clinical team in the provision of patient nursing and rehabilitation care by working alongside qualified nursing and therapy staff. Participate in the implementation of care and rehabilitation programmes, to ensure patients regain confidence in maintaining activities of daily living whilst recognising the patient’s beliefs, preferences, and choices. Help ensure that service users engage effectively with the agreed Care Plan and access appropriate services. Be responsible for liaising with and providing information to other agencies involved in the care of the service user. Develop a rapport and a therapeutic relationship with service users, within appropriate boundaries. Provide regular and practical support to service users and their carers (as appropriate) in developing and managing independence and maintaining dignity and self-respect. Facilitate the orientation of newly transferred clients into the ward, recording their property and supporting them as they settle in. Skills Previous experience as a Health Care Assistant. Minimum of 6 months of Health Care Assistant / Care work. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Basic awareness of IT and IT skills.
