The Critical Care Unit is a 5-bedded acute surgical unit caring for Maxillo-Facial/ENT cancer, reconstructive surgery, and burns patients. We currently have an opportunity for a Health Care Support Worker to join our busy and friendly specialist team. The ideal candidate will be empathic, caring, and compassionate. You will also be reliable, self-motivated, and able to work as a member of the team assisting all staff in the daily running of the ward and providing high standards of care to patients. Previous experience in a health care setting is desirable although orientation, training, and supervision will be provided to the right candidate. Basic IT skills are beneficial. Main duties of the job
The Health Care Support Worker will work as part of the critical care team with the supervision of registered practitioners to provide safe and effective patient-focused care at all times. Contribute to the development of the care environment with a positive, professional attitude. Contribute to the maintenance of daily provision of service and care to meet the individual needs of patients and the department. Support the smooth running of the ward and ensure patients, relatives, and carers are supported in a friendly and efficient manner. Ensure that policies and guidelines are adhered to. Clinical Responsibilities Prepare bed spaces in preparation for receiving patients. Assist to ensure the ward is restocked and maintain the cleaning of clinical areas. Assist with the admission and discharge of patients. Work as part of a skilled team to support the provision of an effective and safe clinical service. Support the registered practitioner in the delivery of direct and indirect patient care. Undertake a range of delegated clinical duties including record keeping, patient observations, and specimen handling. Communicate with colleagues, patients, and their relatives/carers in a professional and compassionate manner. Assist patients with activities of daily living while ensuring their privacy and dignity are maintained. Ensure a safe environment in the department for patients/staff and visitors. Undertake phlebotomy tasks as required upon completion of the competency. Person specification
Qualifications
A good standard of secondary education. NVQ in healthcare or equivalent. Basic IT skills. Attributes
Demonstrates compassion when dealing with patients, families, and colleagues. Good communication skills. Understanding of confidentiality. Experience
