We are looking for an individual who is passionate about patient care and is motivated and driven to provide a high standard of nurse-led care to patients that are referred to the service with a plastic surgery trauma injury. The successful candidate will have extensive post-registration knowledge of plastic surgery, trauma, and/or wound care. The successful candidate must be motivated and enthusiastic to learn about the plastic surgery trauma service and undertake all training and competencies to meet the needs of the service. They must have the passion to work towards autonomous practice, the ability to make clinical decisions based on best practice, and the interests of the patient. The ability to prioritize and time manage is an essential skill as the successful candidate ultimately will be accountable for managing their own workload and participating in the coordination of the trauma service. You will be expected to work within the trauma nurse team yet be part of the much wider MDT. Main duties of the job The role is very diverse and encompasses all patients referred into the service, with plastic surgery injuries such as to the hand, skin loss, bites, and amputated limbs. We are the only service in South Wales and therefore have a large catchment area. The team works 7 days and provides cover from 7:30-20:00 hrs but this is subject to the needs of the service. Every day there is a Trauma clinic with patients booked in from referrals to be seen, alongside those who are life and/or limb loss who are seen immediately. We also take referrals from other inpatient services. The candidate, with time and education, will be expected to undertake all aspects of the role, which also includes education to junior staff, patients, and relatives. Their own professional development alongside the development of the Trauma service. The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with the relevant clinical leaders and managers to identify learning needs within the plastic surgery service. A tailored training program will be developed to meet the successful candidate’s needs.
