The role of neonatal HCSW is to support the delivery of high quality safe care to babies and their families. The HCSW will be a competent individual working as a member of the neonatal team at Wrexham Maelor hospital. Following appropriate competency-based training; the HCSW will work with in/direct supervision of a registered nurse but will be guided by the nurses' expertise. Main duties of the job To be part of a team that provides high quality family integrated care to babies and their families. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply. Qualifications Essential NVQ Level 3 in Health or a willingness to work towards. Desirable BFI Certificate. Knowledge Essential Knowledge of Units / Health Board's policies and procedures. Knowledge of life support in adults and neonates, manual handling, fire policy, infection control, safeguarding adults and children. Knowledge of health and safety. Aware of role within a multi-disciplinary team. Knowledge of equality, diversity, and human rights. Desirable Knowledge of essential requirements of neonatal nursing. Knowledge of child development, parental skills and nutrition. Experience Essential Band 3 HCSW experience in a health care setting. Evidence of continuing professional development. Evidence of mandatory training. Desirable Experience in a neonatal setting. Personal Qualities (Demonstrable) Essential Professional and well motivated. Good attendance record. Trustworthy and enthusiastic. Flexible to work shifts both days and nights according to service needs. Skills Essential Good communication/interpersonal skills. Motivated, compassionate, tactful and diplomatic. Basic IT skills. Desirable IT courses. Assessed as competent in passing nasogastric tubes. BFI competencies. Other Essential Ability to work without direct supervision. Work within a multidisciplinary team. Able to problem solve/adjust workload. Desirable Ability to speak Welsh.
