Health and Safety Manager

for a 12-month maternity cover position. With a growing portfolio of products and increasing demand, this role is crucial to ensuring the business remains compliant with health and safety legislation while fostering a strong safety culture across the site. Key Responsibilities The Health and Safety Manager will oversee the health and safety and maintenance functions, ensuring compliance and operational excellence. Key duties include: Delivering and maintaining health and safety training programs for all personnel. Advising and supporting departmental managers on health and safety matters to promote a strong safety culture. Managing safety records, incident reporting, and investigations, including root cause analysis and follow-up actions. Ensuring compliance with RIDDOR regulations and timely reporting to HSE. Maintaining and reviewing risk assessments and COSHH documentation. Conducting safety audits and inspections to identify and address potential hazards. Supporting workplace adjustments and ensuring new equipment purchases meet safety standards. Managing the maintenance system for safety equipment, machinery, and general facilities. Contributing to health and safety documentation and training related to facility changes or moves. Staying up-to-date with health and safety legislation and implementing necessary updates. Supervisory Responsibilities Provide guidance and support to other departments, acting as a member of the Site Leadership Team. Qualifications and Experience The ideal candidate will have: A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a health and safety role, preferably in a laboratory or science-based environment. NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational H&S or a Level 5 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice (or equivalent). Previous management experience. Desirable experience in supporting a facility site move. Skills and Attributes Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills. Ability to lead and advise managers on health and safety matters effectively. Proficiency in delivering training sessions and presentations. Excellent time management and adaptability to shifting priorities. Integrity, motivation, and attention to detail in all work. Competence in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
