Job Description As Health & Safety Manager, you will drive a culture of risk-based decision making, coaching, training, and enabling the Site Management Team and Regional Health and Safety Leads to balance risk alongside ensuring legal and regulatory compliance through the imparting of expert knowledge and practical application of SHE principles. Ensure practical application is aligned to corporate risk strategy and is consistently applied across the business.

What will you be doing?

Actively drive the creation of a culture of risk-based decision making in order to enable business objectives to be delivered most effectively.

Align advice/guidance provided to the Site Managers with corporate strategy, ensuring compliance with all aspects of relevant legislation for H&S, BRC, MHRA, Energy and Pollution Control, Major Accident Prevention, and Insurance requirements, ensuring solutions are in scope of relevant standards and principles.

Deliver a compliant Safety Management System for the site, developing relevant H&S Risk assessments and control plans, and ensuring the creation and review of SSOWs.

Utilise data to drive performance improvement and consistent delivery of Policy/Practice across the site and analysing accident/incident trends to contribute recommendations for continuous improvement.

Ensure effective employee consultation, including a Safety Committee and a variety of appropriate mediums to disseminate information on safety and environmental matters and to implement programmes that promote a positive safety culture.

Ensure effective accident/incident investigations, providing specialist knowledge, advice, and guidance to Operational Managers where necessary.

Support the design and delivery of a comprehensive programme of Safety Training, bespoke to the needs of individual job roles working in partnership with Operational Managers.

Conduct and/or host inspections and audits aligned to the relevant standards, liaising with the Management Team on requirements, outputs, monitoring of improvements, and evaluating ongoing compliance using relevant regulatory and company policy as the basis for content/measurement.

Produce accurate and relevant KPIs to measure performance levels against agreed targets, sharing data with Depot/Functional Management teams, Statutory Authorities, and Customers as agreed and as appropriate.

Liaise with representatives of relevant official bodies and third-party organisations.

Assist with tender proposal/submission documentation.

Liaise with representatives of the relevant official bodies and third-party organisations to develop best practices e.g., Fire and building regulations, The Environment Agency, etc.

Produce reports on compliance matters as directed.

Maintain awareness of Environmental issues, Alternative Energy sources, and changes in legislation.

Ensure the site is compliant as a COMAH operator and takes all measures necessary to prevent a major accident.

Provide specialist support to the contractor control and permit to work program on site.

Qualifications

Minimum NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent.

Educated to A-level standard or equivalent.

Full driving licence.

Proven ability to drive/influence culture to promote a safety-critical working environment.

Ability to form relationships, partner with, and coach/train/develop/influence senior managers.

Ability to design and deliver training through the mediums of classroom, individual coaching, and/or toolbox talks.

Experience of working with external auditors, contractors, and suppliers to support accreditation processes and maintain assessment standards across multi-site environments.

Ability to influence, provide support and drive initiatives within a target-driven work environment.

Experience of managing and/or developing policy/procedure with a thorough and practical knowledge of accident investigation and root cause analysis.

Proven experience of working within a risk management role in a safety-based culture.

Detailed knowledge of operational risk management frameworks and methodologies.

Demonstrable knowledge relative to the collation and publishing of critical KPI data.

Practical insight and understanding that enables the postholder to provide comprehensive commentary on KPI outputs and implement recommendations to aid continuous improvement.

Comprehensive knowledge of occupational health requirements and safety risk management.

In-depth knowledge of environmental impacts and their control.
