The successful applicant will be joining an established and supportive team at Hollyns Health and Wellbeing, Clayton/Allerton, Bradford. Healthcare Assistants make a valuable and important contribution to the delivery of high-quality healthcare, care, and support.

The role is 37.5 hours per week, working 5 days per week (part-time applications would be considered) and will be part of the wider nursing and clinical team within the Practice.

Main duties of the job

Undertake opportunistic screening when clinically required

Perform venepuncture and electrocardiography

Provide advice on health promotion issues

Be aware and recognize the signs of child abuse, family violence, vulnerable adults, substance abuse, addictive behaviors, and suicidal tendencies; proactively utilize local referral procedures where necessary

Manage workload effectively and answer any direct tasks, emails, or communications in a timely manner

When required, be available to carry out home visits (staff must ensure relevant car insurance level is in place to support this)

Apply infection control measures when collecting and handling laboratory specimens, disposing of waste materials, dealing with blood and body fluid spillages, and reporting and treating sharps injuries; promoting best practice within the Practice

Assist and support medical/nursing colleagues in the management of clinical emergencies

Undertake annual training and demonstrate competency in anaphylaxis and resuscitation

Offer a holistic service to patients and their families, developing where appropriate an ongoing plan of care/support, with an emphasis on prevention and self-care

About us Hollyns Health and Wellbeing is a GP Practice based over two sites, Clayton and Allerton, Bradford. We are seeking a full-time experienced and enthusiastic Healthcare Assistant. GP Practice experience is desirable.

The Surgery has approximately 12,600 patients and includes GPs, Nurses, Health Care Assistants, Pharmacists, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, and Administration staff.

We offer chronic disease clinics for diabetes, asthma, and COPD, spirometry, active GP and Nursing training and teaching practice, and utilize the SystmOne clinical system with high QOF achievement. We are part of a Primary Care Network with access to additional pharmacists, social prescribers, and physiotherapy, and provide minor surgery, sexual health, diabetes, anticoagulation, and pain management services available for patients.

Job responsibilities

Offer chronic disease management in line with local and national policy

Undertake opportunistic screening when clinically required

Perform venepuncture and electrocardiography

Carry out ear examination and irrigation

Administer adult and, where applicable, pediatric injections/immunizations/vaccines under an individualised prescription (PSD)

Provide advice on lifestyle issues; encouraging, assisting, and supporting patients in changing their unhealthy behaviors and referring on appropriately

Be aware and recognize the signs of child abuse, family violence, vulnerable adults, substance abuse, addictive behaviors, and suicidal tendencies; proactively utilize local referral procedures where necessary

Manage workload effectively and answer any direct tasks, emails, or communications in a timely manner

When required, be available to carry out home visits (staff must ensure relevant car insurance level is in place to support this)

Flexibility of Working Hours

You will be expected, when appropriate, as part of your role, to cover sickness and annual leave, which is integral to the effective running of the Practice. You will also be expected to be available if required to assist in extended surgeries to cater for the practice need.

Utilizing security systems appropriate to the workplace according to Practice guidelines

Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards

Keeping own work areas and general/patient areas clean, assisting in the maintenance of general standards of cleanliness consistent with the scope of the job holder's role

Person Specification Qualifications

General education to Grade C or above

NVQ Level 3 or working towards

Evidence of further academic achievement/practice relevant to primary care e.g., ECG
