The role includes working as part of a team of other staff within the Blood Sciences specimen reception.

Main Duties of the Job The role will involve working in a high-pressured environment taking receipt of large volumes of laboratory specimens. Checking and examining electronic and paper requests and transfer requests onto the Laboratory Information System in preparation for sample analysis.
You will be rostered into the laboratory department as part of a team of Band 2 staff, carrying out technical, clerical and administrative duties.
It is essential that you have the ability to work flexibly between the hours of 07:00 and 21:00, inclusive of Saturday and Sunday and Bank Holiday, on rotation.

Person Specification Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training
5 GCSE's or equivalent
IT Literate with good keyboard skills
To have a basic understanding of good laboratory practice and health and safety
GCSE (or equivalent) at grade A-C in English, Mathematics and a Science subject
NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in a relevant subject
Knowledge and Skills
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Manual dexterity. Ability to use laboratory equipment ranging from manual pipettes to automated analysers
Experience in a modern Blood Sciences Laboratory, gained in the last 3 years
Experience using a laboratory information management system
Experience of using automated and semi-automated laboratory analysers

Ability to work under pressure
Good written and spoken English
Ability to work individually and as part of a team under supervision.
Ability to plan and prioritise allocated work
Ability to follow set protocols and procedures without deviation
Ability to adapt to new systems/work practices
Other Requirements

Willingness to undertake further training as required by the role, and to keep a written record of personal developments
Experience in using Cerner hospital system
