Job overview

The post holder will provide support and clinical care to service users and staff within Barnsley Integrated Sexual Health. This post is an apprenticeship position allowing the postholder to learn specific skills in Genito-Urinary Medicine & Contraception. There is an element of clerical and administration work within this post. On completion of the apprenticeship, the postholder will gain a Health and Social Care level 3 qualification. There is also an opportunity to gain functional Maths and English if not already obtained. The post holder will need to operate an Electronic Patient Record system; some experience would be advantageous but not essential as full training will be given. The successful candidate will be expected to form positive working relationships across our multidisciplinary team, adapt and be flexible within this fast-paced, patient-focused environment, and demonstrate a genuine interest in this specialism. We expect the right person to uphold Spectrum’s values and behaviours. This post includes evening work and may require occasional weekend work. Main duties of the job

Support the delivery of clinical care in the Sexual Health Service, including chaperoning, obtaining samples, and assisting medical and nursing staff in providing contraception and managing sexually transmitted infections. Maintain stock levels and stock control within the unit. Work across a range of services, including the main Spectrum site at Gateway Plaza and other clinical settings. Evening work required. Qualifications

Genuine interest and desire to work in GUM/Contraception Specialism. Vocational qualification at level 2 or equivalent relevant experience (e.g. GCSE grade 9-4). Prepared to study and complete Level 3 qualification (equivalent to A Level/BTEC National level). Qualification in Mathematics & English language (or be prepared to obtain through apprenticeship). Holds relevant Health Care certificate or working towards this (e.g. Care Course). Knowledge

Good understanding of confidentiality. Understanding of basic Sexual health issues. Confident and able to communicate with a range of people. Ability to work in an organised and methodical way, multitasking as necessary. Computer literate, and able to use a range of Microsoft Office programmes. Microscopy knowledge. Experience

Previous experience of working in a health care setting dealing with confidential and sensitive matters. Confident in communicating with a range of people. Ability to work in an organised and methodical way, multitasking as necessary. Computer literate, confident in using a range of Microsoft Office programmes and electronic patient records. Previous experience communicating with the general public face to face or via telephone. Experience in stock control and ordering of supplies. Employer certification / accreditation badges
