The Job: An opportunity has arisen for a Lead Herdsperson to join a progressive 400-cow, 490-acre dairy farm in Leicester. The farm features a split-block calving system and a grazing herd within a fully modernized dairy setup, equipped with advanced technology to optimise productivity and animal welfare. This hands-on role involves the day-to-day management of the dairy herd, ensuring top standards in animal health, welfare and milk production. Experience in artificial insemination and a proactive approach are essential. Key Responsibilities:

Managing the split-block calving system. Assisting with all aspects of calving. Implementing and monitoring the farm’s grazing system to maximise grassland utilization. Overseeing milking routines and working with the farm's automated systems. Supervising and supporting staff to maintain efficient daily operations. Ensuring adherence to health, safety and biosecurity protocols. Recording and analysing herd performance data, including fertility, health, and milk production. Liaising with vets, nutritionists, and advisors to uphold best practices. Experience managing or working within a similar-sized dairy operation. Strong knowledge of grazing systems and split-block calving. Proficiency and experience in artificial insemination (AI). Excellent animal husbandry skills with a focus on health and welfare. Ability to use and maintain modern dairy systems and technology. Leadership and team management skills. Effective communication and organisational abilities. The Package:

Salary £35,000–£45,000 per annum DOE. On-site accommodation: A modern, three-bedroom property included. Every other weekend off, plus 35 days holiday.
