We are looking for a dedicated, reliable and proactive Heritage Consultant to join our team working alongside our existing Heritage Consultant. You will be exposed to a number of unique projects throughout the UK, working with heritage organisations through to commercial property managers. In this role, you will be providing heritage consultancy including preparing reports that will assist clients to understand the significance of heritage assets and support them through the planning process. Our work involves the assessment and analysis of building fabric alongside comprehensive documentary research in order thoroughly understand significance including construction phasing and fabric value. Our work also includes undertaking building recording where required. You should have an interest in buildings at risk and developing building pathology skills alongside general heritage consultancy as these disciplines can overlap in the work we do. It is key you are able to work independently as well as part of a team. You will be required to drive to client sites and so a full driving licence valid in the UK is necessary. This may be supported with the benefits of company cars or a car allowance, dependent upon the individual and site where you are employed. The tasks you will undertake will include (but are not limited to):

Inspecting and assessing buildings. This is a physically active role and may include working at heights, using ladders and scaffolding, inspecting small confined spaces and working within buildings in a dilapidated condition. Preparing reports, including background research, observations and recommendations, illustrated with photographs, sketch details and CAD drawings. Providing high-quality, professional and timely advice to clients relating to understanding significance and proposed works. Attending meetings with clients, design teams and consultants. Following established company procedures and protocols and assisting in the development of new systems to ensure that the company’s quality standards are maintained and enhanced. Undertaking personal training and development, as discussed with Directors. Ensuring confidentiality at all times in matters relating to work or communication with the company and clients. To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate:

Have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a discipline relevant to the conservation of built heritage. Have achieved or be working towards membership of the IHBC or other professional institutions. Have a working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft 365. Have an understanding of the UK heritage protection system and wider planning system and how this interrelates with projects at design and construction phases. Have an understanding of how to assess and analyse significance, including an understanding of traditional building materials and construction, architectural history, building recording and research methods. Have a professional, organised and thorough approach to work which demonstrates an attention to detail. Have the ability to take initiative in identifying and undertaking work that needs to be carried out. Possess an inquisitive approach to learning, work and developing skills. Be comfortable communicating with clients. Be comfortable working within a team or independently. High standards of written and spoken English.
