This is an exciting and important opportunity to set up, lead and provide the Infected Blood Psychology Service (IBPS) within Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals (NUTH) based in the Psychology in Healthcare service and working alongside colleagues in the Haematology department. The England-wide Infected Blood Psychological Service provides multidisciplinary care for those infected and affected by contaminated blood products by: a) conducting outreach and psychosocial assessments led by navigators; and b) providing psychological therapies by teams of psychological professionals. The role will involve clinical leadership of other IBPS staff and of staff working into Haematology and other associated areas and will involve close working with the IBPS providers across the North-East region. First and foremost, it is to establish and deliver the IBPS based in NUTH but providing regional services to individuals across the North-East. Following the Infected Blood Inquiry interim report, NHS England commissioned this psychological service across England for people who were given infected blood and infected blood products by National Health services in the UK and family members affected by this. Your role will be to lead and provide this service to support people infected and affected family members including those bereaved within the North-East region and liaise with your counterparts across the country. An interim psychology service has been established for people infected through blood product treatment given for bleeding disorders under follow up by the Newcastle Comprehensive Care centre. This post will continue this work and provide clinical leadership to this team and associated service areas. It is likely that the role will evolve as the IBPS becomes established. Qualifications & Education
Doctoral level training in Clinical Psychology, including specifically, models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the British Psychological Society. HCPC Registration. Post graduate qualification in psychological therapy. Knowledge & Experience
Post-graduate training relevant speciality e.g. neuropsychology, CBT, CAT. Experience of specialist psychological assessment, formulation and treatment of patients across the full range of care settings. Significant amount of consolidated post qualification experience and application of specialist psychological assessment, formulation and treatment of patients in health care services. Knowledge of legislation and national guidance in relation to the patient group and mental health. Experience of working within a multicultural framework. Skills & Abilities
Application of psychological knowledge to a population and whenever acting as team lead takes day to day responsibility for psychological input in relation to service in which post is located. Well-developed skills in the ability to empathise and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to patients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues. Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.
