Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist NHS AfC: Band 8a Job overview This is an exciting opportunity for someone who values MDT working and has a passion for improving the lives of forensic individuals with LDA.
We are looking for either a secondment or fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave for our Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist within the Transforming Care (TC) Community Forensic Team (CFT). This post will run until November 2025. This post can either be a B7 or 8a depending on experience.
This post is open to both full or part-time hours. Should this be a secondment opportunity, we can consider this being a split post with your current team, if this would work for the current team's functioning.
The purpose of this role is to provide Clinical/Forensic Psychology provision to individuals with Intellectual Disability and/or fit the Transforming Care Programme as part of the Community Forensic Team. The post holder must have specialist forensic/clinical training and experience, including with intellectual disability and/or autism.
Main duties of the job Overview of the key duties are:
Complete comprehensive risk assessments and formulations.
Provide psychological intervention to individuals with an intellectual disability and/or autism.
Ensure provision of clinical supervision, clinical leadership, and reflective practice within the team.
Provide liaison and consultation to other LPFT teams and/or other teams who work with our patient group.
Work as part of the MDT to reduce the risk of admission for individuals on the TC cohort.
Develop and provide training to healthcare providers who support our patient group.
Support the team manager by leading on service development and systematic provision planning from a psychological perspective, specifically in relation to the service for forensic clients with intellectual disability and/or autism.

Person specification Qualifications
A Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or Forensic Psychology accredited by the BPS or equivalent qualification
Registered member of HCPC
Clinical supervision training for doctorate clinical psychology trainees or equivalent for forensic trainees
Eligible for chartered status as a forensic psychologist
Additional training in Autism assessment
Accredited in specific ID/Autism Training e.g. PBS trained, SPELL trained
Experience
Training in clinical supervision of trainee and newly-qualified Clinical Psychologists
Training to a level equivalent to a PG Diploma in a clinical specialism that will have a positive impact on the existing team
Skills
Post-qualification experience specialising in psychological services for autistic adults (with/without learning disabilities)
Experience of providing clinical leadership, particularly with regard to other professions (e.g. nursing, MDTs)
Experienced in working with individuals with complex needs including developmental disorders, neurological disorders, and mental illness
Experienced in working with the full range of cognitive abilities from profound to mild LD
Experienced in communicating with clients who have severe limitations in comprehension and expression
Experienced in working with individuals who have multiple disabilities
Experienced in working with individuals with challenging and very hostile behaviours
Experienced in working with adults who have been abused or neglected
Experienced in working with highly dependent/institutionalised clients
Experienced in identifying risk factors and consulting on issues of risk with other agencies
Experienced in working across a range of care settings including out-patient, in-patient, community, and residential care settings
Experienced in initiating and providing psychological services and managing change
Experienced in multidisciplinary and multi-agency working
Experience of working with individuals with dual diagnosis of learning disabilities and personality disorder
Experience of representing psychological service in multidisciplinary fora
Experience of managing the activities or caseloads of trainee or recently qualified psychologists
