Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist – West

We are seeking an experienced paediatric Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT) to take a lead on a clinical pathway related to an area of specialism they hold, as well as hold a caseload which is responsive to areas of need within the community of West Cornwall.

They will be proactive in reviewing and maintaining their named clinical pathway, and will ensure the wider SaLT service are confidently applying it to their own caseloads.

The post holder will offer clinical supervision and/or line management across the service, as well as face to face second opinions.

The post holder will work with the area team lead to establish their highly specialist community caseload and provide assessment and/or intervention to their caseload.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for someone who: has an established/or developing clinical specialism in either speech/DLD/ABI/life-limiting conditions/school aged complex needs/Down Syndrome/voice has experience supervising and/or line managing SaLTs is organised and able to prioritise tasks is a good listener and seeks feedback from the therapists/service users proactively seeks solutions to challenges

Person Specification

Education / Qualifications and Relevant Experience

Essential

Degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent qualification) Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Clinical experience of working with autism, other neurodevelopmental disorders, and with children and young people with complex conditions and needs Highly developed skills of clinical assessment, evaluation and intervention for children and young people with speech, language and communication difficulties.

Desirable

Postgraduate Paediatric Dysphagia training, and experience in assessing and advising/providing intervention for this client group

Skills and Aptitude

Essential

Have a high level of clinical diagnostic and sensory perceptual skills, in order to carry out core clinical work, such as structured and detailed observation of verbal and non-verbal communication behaviours.
