This exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Highly Specialist Speech & Language Therapist to join the Community stroke team and Acute Stroke Team at Northampton General Hospital. You will join a Team of 70 staff who are situated within the community stroke Team and covers the Northamptonshire area. This is a full time substantive post of hours per week. With a / spilt across the two Teams The Northamptonshire community stroke team has delivered on robust integrated community stroke service model, as per the national guidelines, for over a decade. Northampton she community stroke team continues to see patients within 48 hours of discharge home for rehabilitation assessment and intensive goal based rehabilitation. The service user's time with the team is needs based and they can access any of the other services they require regardless of time post stroke. Rehabilitation is completed by stroke specialist MDT, that includes Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech Therapist, Nurses, Rehabilitation Practitioners, Rehabilitation Assistance and Admin staff. The team also has a face-to-face exercise groups and 6 months reviews. Main duties of the job The successful post holder will be an experienced Speech and Language Therapist with highly specialist knowledge of differential diagnosis associated with Stroke, including complex dysphagia and complex communication. They will independently manage and prioritise a complex, highly specialist caseload of complex dysphagia and complex Stroke. They will provide leadership with the other Band 7's within the Community Stroke Team (CST). They will support/mentor junior colleagues and provide expert opinions to others, including supervise, appraise and develop Band 6 and 5 Physiotherapist, Band 4 and 3 staff and student SLTs in the team. Support Band 7 and Band 8 staff in managing and planning the community stroke rehabilitation services, deputising for team lead as required. They will provide clinical teaching of Speech and Language Therapy students and will develop and deliver specialist training to others in the area of clinical expertise. They will initiate and undertake research/Clinical Governance/audit projects within area of expertise. To be involved with Videoflouroscopy with individuals who have suffered a stroke, taking part in analysing the images on PAX and writing the reports.
