To manage the effective delivery of our HR service across the business, covering all aspects of the employment life cycle, namely recruitment, employee relations, EDI, change management and overseeing the HR administration. To ensure that Colas Rail’s people management strategies and practices are aligned with Colas Rail’s strategy and provide support and advice to all stakeholders in a complex and customer-focused environment. Person Specification

Experience of handling staff dismissal and termination of contracts. Up-to-date knowledge of UK employment legislation, pending legislation and latest HR initiatives ensuring best practice. Ability to manage a high workload and prioritize effectively. Previous experience of managing a team. Strong commercial acumen with significant experience managing business change and complexity. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Track record of building and managing relationships with a variety of stakeholders. Demonstrated track record of delivering HR initiatives and improving HR processes. Exposure to a unionized environment is desirable. TUPE and re-organization experience desirable. Highly proficient user of Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel, and HR systems. Key Responsibilities

Write new and update existing employment policies and ensure effective implementation. Plan, provide and deliver training programmes and learning events in order to equip managers with the competence and confidence to undertake their full range of managerial and leadership responsibilities. Support managers with the effective monitoring and management of employee absence, including holiday, sickness, and maternity and paternity leave. Promote and advise on best practices, ensuring compliance with all employment policies, including employment legislation, employment contracts, GDPR, health and safety policies, and remuneration packages. Draft policy documents or guidance as appropriate. Support managers through the recruitment and onboarding process of all new joiners and leavers for senior roles. Carry out monthly audits on our integrated HR and Payroll system (MyColas) to check data accuracy and ensure that the system is being updated by the HR Assistants as required. Work in collaboration with key members of the broader HR team in supporting the delivery of Colas Rail’s wider goals and strategy.
