The opportunity: In your role as Health & Safety Manager, you will be directly responsible for the coordination and execution of all Health & Safety responsibilities for the Leicester Consumer Packaging site. How you will impact Smurfit Westrock: Make changes to working practices that are safe and comply with legislation. Lead the site H&S Committee meetings, listening and working collaboratively with employees at site. Work with the Regional H&S Leader to deliver health and safety strategies and develop internal, site-based policies. Assist and provide guidance on carrying out risk assessments and considering how risks could be reduced. Assist and provide guidance on carrying out various assessments. Assist and support site with implementation of environmental impacts and aspect assessments. Provide site with support and guidance with operational learning events. Outline safe operational procedures which identify and take account of all relevant hazards. Assist with regular site and equipment inspections to check policies, procedures and working practices are being implemented correctly. Provide internal and external audit support. Assist the Group’s/Division’s efforts to improve H&S performance/standards by coordinating the reporting of injuries/incidents, ensuring there is a proper level of operational learning. Manage the Safety Excellence System (SES) and Environmental e2 Excellence System. Keep up to date with new legislation and maintaining a working knowledge of HS&E legislation/developments and brief teams of any changes via workflow. Advise teams on specialist areas such as fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, appropriate guarding of machinery and occupational diseases. Ensure sites meet the Fire Safety Legal requirements. Support HR by providing expertise and knowledge on all Health and Safety activities. Conduct internal audits and effectively plan to address any gaps noted. Carry out other general administration activities as and when required. What you need to succeed: Knowledge of H&S legislation with the ability to understand and interpret legislation as appropriate to the site. Proven experience as a trainer. NEBOSH certification. Organisational Skills: Plans, arranges and/or monitors work to ensure achievement of desired results; establishes a systematic course of action to accomplish objectives. Interpersonal Skills: Can relate to and communicate effectively with others to build rapport and relationships. Customer-Oriented: Demonstrates concern for satisfying external and/or internal customers; resolves customer issues in a timely manner; communicates with customers to ensure alignment and satisfaction. Communication: Excellent communication (verbal & written), presentation and public speaking skills. Time Management: Plans, prioritises, and manages time spent on accomplishing tasks to meet deadlines. Problem-Solving: Identifies and analyses problems; generates and evaluates alternative solutions; makes recommendations; demonstrates tackling a problem by using a logical, systematic, or sequential approach.
