Start Date: Q4 2024

Salary: £60,000 - £85,000 plus benefits and hybrid working available

Ready to shape the future of the HV cable industry?

Do you see yourself leading cutting-edge design projects that push the limits of cable systems engineering? Are you passionate about collaboration and driven to develop solutions that truly make a difference?

Turner Lovell is seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead design initiatives for a leading international HV cable manufacturer, servicing the global energy transition, renewable energy, and electricity sectors. Having grown from a €100M turnover to a multibillion-euro business in just 5–6 years, our client offers a unique opportunity to join their core team and play a pivotal role in one of their fastest-growing markets.

As the Design Manager, you’ll lead projects spanning onshore cable tunnels, HVDC systems, HV cables, and offshore grid connections. You’ll be responsible for ensuring that all designs meet the highest standards of quality and safety, while driving collaboration between design teams, subcontractors, and key stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and with excellence. If you’re ready to challenge yourself, set new industry benchmarks, and leave a lasting impact, this is your chance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage all HV cable system design deliverables, ensuring they are clearly defined, tracked, and delivered throughout both design and project execution phases.
  • Collaborate with engineering and design teams to ensure timely, budget-friendly, and quality-driven project delivery.
  • Lead design efforts for both temporary and permanent works, ensuring optimal, robust designs.
  • Manage subcontractor design packages and ensure technical approvals are secured.
  • Provide guidance on the buildability of design proposals to both design and construction teams.
  • Assist in tender development, ensuring that budgets, programs, and risks are effectively evaluated and communicated.

Ideal Background:

  • MSc, BSc, or HND in Electrical, Mechanical, Cable Systems, or a related field.
  • Practical engineering experience, gained through site-based roles or involvement in design activities.
  • Interest in HVDC or offshore grid connection projects.
  • Familiarity with 3D Design Delivery, including BIM.
  • Proven experience in HV cable design coordination and project delivery.
  • Solid understanding of design office workflows, with experience in successful design coordination.
  • Knowledge of design standards and procedures, with some familiarity in temporary works systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with National Grid Design Management standards is desirable but not essential.
  • Understanding of CDM regulations and their impact on safety, constructability, and sustainability in UK projects.

Are you a passionate design professional ready to step into a leadership role within a dynamic organization? Don’t miss this exciting opportunity—apply now and help shape the future of the HV cable industry!
