Design and Technical Oversight:
Develop and review detailed designs and technical specifications for HV plant installations in substations.
Conduct system studies, fault analysis, and equipment sizing to meet project and operational requirements. Project Delivery:
Manage the delivery of HV plant systems, including transformers, switchgear, and associated substation equipment, ensuring projects are completed on time, within scope, and on budget.
Oversee procurement processes, contractor management, and material selection for HV plant components. Compliance and Standards:
Ensure all designs and installations comply with industry regulations, including IEC standards, DSEAR, and CDM 2015 requirements.
Liaise with regulatory bodies and stakeholders to provide technical clarification and ensure adherence to policies. Testing and Commissioning:
Lead commissioning activities, ensuring all HV plant systems are tested, integrated, and operationally ready.
Conduct factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT) as required. Stakeholder Engagement:
Collaborate with internal teams, clients, and external contractors to ensure smooth project execution.
Provide regular project updates, including progress reports, risk assessments, and cost analyses. Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE):
Identify and mitigate risks associated with HV plant projects, promoting a safety-first culture.
Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with HSE requirements and company policies. Key Requirements:
Qualifications:
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field.
Chartered Engineer status (preferred) or working towards it.
Membership in a professional body such as IET or IEEE. Experience:
Proven experience in HV plant engineering within substation projects, preferably within the substation/power domain.
Hands-on experience with transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, protection systems, and associated HV equipment.
Strong knowledge of National Grid standards, NEC contracts, and regulatory frameworks (e.g., RIIO).
Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams and contractors on complex engineering projects. Skills:
In-depth understanding of electrical systems, HV plant equipment, and substation layouts.
Strong project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and risk management.
