Job Responsibilities HVAC/Energy Management Systems Technician II

The Department of Administration's (Admin) Division of Facilities Management and Property Services is seeking an HVAC/Energy Management Systems Technician II to join the team. Facilities Management (FM) maintains and operates approximately 53 buildings including the State House, Capitol Complex Office Buildings, the Governor's Mansion, and other buildings in the Columbia area. In this role, you will provide higher-skilled building HVAC maintenance and repair services to efficiently and effectively repair and maintain FM owned and contracted buildings. Provide strong leadership skills to include oversight to HVAC projects.

Responsibilities:

Plan, implement and complete assigned maintenance, repair and renovation of HVAC tasks professionally and safely to minimize unexpected equipment failures and ensure compliance with codes and regulations. Utilize technology efficiently and communicate effectively with smartphone technology, including prompt responses to texts, emails, and calls. Apply skills and knowledge of refrigeration, heat transfer, compressors, air handlers, heat pump service, pneumatic systems, energy systems controls, mechanical cooling, and plumbing skills related to HVAC equipment maintenance. Assist with maintenance, repair and renovation tasks of various trades, either individually or as part of a team. Learn and utilize the SCEIS plant maintenance phone app to document work accurately. Identify, recommend, and request necessary resources to improve efficiency and safety in completing tasks. Anticipate and recommend major repairs and replacements for budgeting purposes. Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the success of FM.

Minimum and Additional Requirements:

A high school diploma or equivalent and five (5) years of higher-skilled commercial, industrial or institutional experience in the installation, repair or maintenance of HVAC and refrigeration systems. Some boiler and chiller R&M experience and knowledge of electricity and plumbing related to HVAC repairs. Knowledge of refrigeration, heat transfer, operation of compressors, heat pump service, pneumatic systems, energy systems controls, mechanical cooling, and PLC's/CFC.

Additional Requirements:

Knowledge of national and local HVAC regulations and code requirements. Skill in making emergency repairs and adjustments to trade equipment. Basic computer skills and ability to learn provided technology. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally. Must possess a valid Class 'D' South Carolina Driver's license. Must possess an EPA Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification. Position may require employee to work evenings and weekends. Position requires on-call shifts and call back. Frequent lifting of 50 lbs. Position requires the ability to work in confined spaces and hazardous conditions.
