Band 6 Infection Prevention and Control Nurse/Practitioner - 30 hours per week

With the Matron for Infection Prevention and Control, Specialist Practitioner, Consultant Microbiologists and Director of Infection Prevention and Control, ensure that prevention, monitoring, investigation and control of healthcare associated infection is embedded within all activities of the Trust. Under the direction of the Specialist Infection Prevention and Control Nurses provide clinical advice on all matters relating to infection prevention and control.

Applicants will be required to travel across hospital sites to provide cover when needed.

Main duties of the job

Clinical -

Provide clinical advice in infection prevention and control within NCIC and to all healthcare staff under the direction of Specialist Infection Prevention and Control Practitioners.

Management -

As part of the infection prevention team, provide assurance to the Trust board that good clinical practice is embedded and embraced at all levels of the organisation and is reflected in performance against key infection prevention and control indicators, including the criteria required for registration with the Care Quality Commission.

Administration -

Monitor progress of all infection prevention and control plans, taking remedial action when required and monitoring the implementation of changes.

Education -

Participate in the development of an educational strategy to promote awareness and understanding of infection prevention and control, encompassing all Trust staff. Communicate infection prevention and control measures to a wide audience including medical staff, the public and external groups.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential Nursing and Midwifery Council registration or Health and Care Professions Council registration (Health care professionals) Recognised Teaching qualification or equivalent experience of teaching. Degree (or working towards)

Desirable Essential IT skills (EITS) or equivalent. Degree module/s qualification in infection prevention and control or equivalent.

Experience

Essential Clinical nursing practice in an NHS setting Audit and management of change. Teaching in small groups. Managing and leading staff Use of a computer.

Desirable Managing change. Contributing to policy. Project management.

Knowledge

Essential Infection prevention and control principles and practice.

Desirable Cross organisational working. Impact assessment.

Skills & Aptitudes

Essential Well developed communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to respond appropriately to requests for information, advice and support. Ability to maintain high standards of work. Ability to use initiative appropriately. Able to work as a member of a team Good IT skills. Ability to prioritise work to meet deadlines Ability to demonstrate the compassionate values and behaviours needed for dignified care.
