We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join Norwich City Council to be our Data Protection Officer (DPO) and lead our Information Governance Team. You will lead on the information governance agenda for the Council and its wholly owned companies. You will ensure that information compliance measures are in place, take a proactive approach to the identification and management of information risks, and work to ensure on-time responses to statutory information requests. Working with the Legal and Governance Service, and with officers across the wider organisations, you will promote a culture of compliance and support the Council’s digital by default agenda. This is a great opportunity for candidates who are driven to deliver change that supports frontline services and to support the Council in its mission to be an ‘open modern council’ by ensuring the balance between information protection and organisational transparency. Candidates will require a DBS check to be completed (this will be paid for by the council). If you enjoy a challenge and a varied workload please apply! For more information about the post, please contact Jan Robinson, Head of Legal and Governance, on 01603 989434.

Responsibilities: Lead a team providing a dedicated information and governance hub, supporting the council to comply with UK Data Protection legislation (both technical and procedural), and providing protection from the unauthorised access to, loss or disclosure of personal data. Lead on work priorities to embed Protection / Information Assurance Policies, Processes and Documentation and to provide dedicated support to co-ordinating all statutory information requests under the Freedom of Information Act, Environmental Information Regulations, INSPIRE, and data subject access. Act as the information governance lead for the council and lead the information and governance team to provide a customer-focused service for internal and external customers. Act as the Data Protection Officer for the Council and its associated companies; and be the named contact for correspondence with the Information Commission’s Office (ICO) and data subjects.
