Innovation Engineer

to work for a very reputable and prestigious engineering client based just outside of Peterborough. In a nutshell, the candidate will be a project engineer/product engineer who has demonstrable experience of working with machinery, delivering projects to customers or products to the market. The successful candidate will have worked in the food, pharmaceutical, or chemical or other related process industry. My client is offering a competitive basic salary, plus a company car and a great benefits package.

The Role

The Mechanical Innovation Engineer will lead development projects from initial concept through to full product realisation/implementation. Oversee validation testing required during the development process and summarise results in a technical report. Identify development opportunities and find creative solutions to improve machinery. Build a full technical design folder for the machine including costings. Create marketing and other supporting documents to feed into sales processes. Assess and implement continuous improvement that may be fed into the process from our in-house change management system. Work closely with and support other departments (Project Engineering, Supply Chain, Compliance, Design) and suppliers to improve existing designs with respect to manufacturability and assembly. The successful candidate can expect a healthy split of 80% office-based activities and 20% on-site. They anticipate the role needing supplier visits, workshop testing, office-based simulations, and engineering as well as leadership of site-based validation, commissioning, and testing. The split bias is likely to be variable depending on the given development; some tasks may focus more heavily on workshop and/or site testing in the validation process. Site works will include U.K and occasional international travel.

Candidate Attributes

Minimum HNC/HND qualification or equivalent in engineering, preferably Degree level or in Mechanical Engineering. Minimum 3 years industry experience (mechanical/process bias), preferably from the food, pharmaceutical, chemical, or other related process industry. Good understanding of machinery process and design including meeting EN and Machinery Directive compliance. Demonstrable hands-on engineering skillset coupled with a technical capability to understand the systems and processes. Ability to develop opportunities and find creative solutions to improve machinery. Dynamic, enthusiastic & flexible approach with a willingness to travel. Excellent commercial awareness. Excellent people skills and clear communicator. Computer literate with working knowledge of the following: AutoCAD Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word Any relevant software (Solidworks, Pipe Flow Expert for example) This position is based in Peterborough, so candidates will need to live within commutable distance and must have the right to work in the UK. Our client is not offering any form of sponsorship.
