An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Inpatient Matron to join our Acute and Urgent Care Directorate Management Team. The Directorate leadership comprises of an Associate Director working in partnership with the Clinical Director, supported by Quality Improvement Lead Nurses, Service Managers and an Inpatient Matron to ensure delivery of our responsibilities for planning, performance, finance, quality and governance.
Main duties of the job
The Post Holder Will Provide Professional Nursing Advice To The Teams Within Their Designated Area Of Responsibility. They Will Also Have Strategic Awareness In Their Speciality In Order To Enable Staff To Develop Services In Ways That Support Trust Values And Initiatives. They Will Also Provide Professional And Clinical Leadership To Clinical Team Managers On Service Improvement To Ensure The Delivery Of High Quality Patient Care. They Will Be Visible, Accessible And Authoritative On Issues Relating To The Three Elements Of Quality - Patient Safety, Clinical Effectiveness And Patient Experience. They Will Support The Directorate In The Implementation Of Trust Policy, Best Practice And Contribute To The Development And Implementation Of The Trust Quality Improvement Strategy, Leading On Quality Improvement Within The Directorate Including Leading The CQC Improvement Programme. Job responsibilities
Take positive action to learn about, and engage with, quality improvement (QI) methodology; leading and driving the QI agenda within the directorate. Lead on continuous service/quality improvement in relation to the 3 elements of quality patient safety, clinical effectiveness and patient experience. Utilise learning from experience to inform continuous improvement strategies; implementing and embedding learning from service user feedback, incidents and complaints. Prioritise patient safety and ensure that data from relevant audits, such as the inpatient/community staffing matrix, are used for quality improvement. Lead on adopting LEAN practices within the directorate to ensure efficient and effective use of resources whilst maintaining/improving quality. Lead on the implementation of benchmarking in services and participate in the trust wide meetings and events. Proactively champion patient safety initiatives and facilitate the implementation of learning from complaints, incidents and feedback. Direct and lead the development and monitoring of standards for cleanliness of the environment and, where appropriate, the quality of patient food; challenging poor performance where necessary. Monitor compliance with the standards for IPC and PLACE inspections including cleanliness of environment and, where appropriate, quality of patient food and take appropriate action to address any unresolved issues. Challenge the status quo with authority, to improve services for the benefit of service users and carers. Take the lead engagement role for directorate with IPC team, on the implementation of infection, prevention and control, policies locally, attending meetings with the Director of IPC and relevant Trust forums. Support Team Managers to enhance and personalise clinical environments. Monitor safer staffing levels and skill mix with the services managers to ensure safe and supportive care. Lead on safer staffing reviews with the Director of Nursing. Support the development of current staff leading on identification of education and learning needs within the directorate to support service improvement. Facilitate the development of new roles within the directorate to enhance skill mix with a focus on quality. Lead on identifying opportunities to involve staff in clinical audit, research and development of NICE guidelines and ensure that teams demonstrate implementation of evidence based practice. Undertake investigations for incidents, complaints and disciplinary issues in the directorate as required. Ensure that safeguarding policies are implemented, monitored and escalate concerns promptly. Be responsible for the resources across area of responsibility, working within budgetary limits. Person Specification
Qualifications Essential Registered Nurse -- Mental Health or Learning Disabilities Degree in nursing related discipline or equivalent experience Experience Essential Experience of working in relevant specialist nursing area at a senior level Proven ability to utilise quality improvement methodology Disclosure and Barring Service Check
