They are a dynamic and well-known consulting business, and their client base consists of some of the largest private equity funds, hedge funds, mutual funds, and management consulting firms, serviced by a team of over 900 employees located across eight global offices.
The Team
You will manage a team of 5 (1 Counsel based in China, 1 Counsel in New York, 2 Legal Counsels in London, and 1 paralegal). The team is very self-sufficient, but someone who likes developing and aiding professional growth and is supportive in nature will be very important to the success of the role, as 30% of the time spent in this position will be dedicated to team management, development, and upkeeping team welfare and happiness.
Reporting Lines
This role reports to a friendly and well-established Global General Counsel based in London. Biweekly catch-ups are the norm, mainly for progress updates and team matters.
The Role
This is an Interim Head of Legal position which requires robust experience managing a team, commercial and corporate legal matters, policy management, company secretarial duties, data protection, and IP matters.
Below is a rough idea of where your time is likely to be spent:
- 30% - Team management
- 20% - Supporting the team on commercial legal matters, escalation matters for larger, more complex commercial transactions, and negotiations with high-value and large clients.
- 25% - Corporate matters/Company Secretarial - UK HQ company and potential acquisition of business next year or liquidation of subsidiaries. Management and upkeep of shareholder documents, employee share option plans, and inter-company arrangements.
- 25% - Intellectual Property and Data Protection
Key Project for 2025 - Increasing operational efficiencies is a HUGE focus for next year, so experience in introducing new processes and efficiencies and advising on implementing new strategies to help streamline and make the legal team more efficient would be a huge advantage. The business is also looking at new tech tools for contracts, so implementation of tech in legal teams would also be an advantage.
The Successful Candidate
- Must have experience in managing a team and enjoy this aspect - naturally nurturing, approachable, and supportive.
- Likely to come with 8 Years PQE+
- Must have good experience in a wide range of corporate legal matters.
- Must have experience in the sale of services and being commercially tuned into strategic commercial objectives.
- Must have experience in drafting and negotiating a wide range of high-value commercial transactions.
- Experience with implementing new processes/efficiencies would be fantastic.
- Someone who can do day-to-day legal work as well as manage a small team - good at prioritizing and being a team player.
- Sector knowledge in service-based/consultancy businesses would be a huge advantage. Other sectors that might be well-aligned would be FinTech, Technology Services, and Business Services.
- Empathy, approachability, and friendliness will be key values and softer skills required in this role.
- Confidence in communication and adaptability in communication styles for different stakeholders.
Start Date: Feb-March 2025
Duration: Contract will start as a 9-month FTC but could extend to 12-13 months while in the contract. TBC.
Location: Liverpool Street. 1 day a week in the office.
Salary: Please inquire as salary is TBC but will be competitive and within market rates for this level of role.
