This is a full-time and fixed-term Interim role until 31 July 2025.
Purpose of the Post
As the Interim Infrastructure Manager, you will play a key leadership role in driving the strategic development and operational excellence of the RCA's IT infrastructure. This includes overseeing critical IT systems, ensuring robust support for academic and research objectives, and leading a high-performing team of infrastructure specialists.

Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Roadmap & Management
Develop and implement IT infrastructure roadmaps aligned with the university's academic, research, and administrative goals. Lead the design, deployment, and optimisation of on-premise and cloud-based systems (e.g., Microsoft Azure, AWS). Evaluate emerging technologies to enhance capabilities in research computing and digital learning. Oversee network infrastructure, servers, storage, disaster recovery, and data backup solutions, ensuring resilience and security. Team Leadership & Development
Manage, mentor, and inspire a team of infrastructure specialists, fostering a collaborative and innovative work culture. Guide performance, provide feedback, and support team members' professional development within the higher education sector. Promote knowledge sharing, continuous learning, and a commitment to excellence. Security, Compliance & Incident Management
Ensure IT systems comply with regulations (e.g., GDPR, Cyber Essentials Plus), safeguarding sensitive academic and research data. Implement and manage security measures to protect against cyber threats. Lead incident management and resolution, minimising disruptions to university operations. Budgeting, Vendor & Stakeholder Management
Manage IT infrastructure budgets, ensuring cost-effective and resource-efficient solutions. Oversee vendor relationships and ensure Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are met. Collaborate with academic departments, research units, and external partners to deliver high-quality IT services. Essential Requirements
Experience: Extensive IT infrastructure management, supporting business, administrative, or research functions (including academia or other sectors). Technical Expertise: Hands-on experience managing large-scale IT systems (on-premise and cloud-based), data-intensive workflows, and complex applications. Leadership: Proven experience leading cross-functional teams, mentoring colleagues, and fostering collaboration to achieve shared goals. Infrastructure Knowledge: Strong understanding of network design, server infrastructure, storage, backup solutions, and business-critical software platforms. Security and Compliance: Solid understanding of IT security, data protection, and regulatory compliance (e.g., GDPR). Problem-Solving: Excellent troubleshooting skills for complex infrastructure issues in dynamic, fast-paced environments. Strategic Vision: Ability to align IT roadmaps with organisational objectives and deliver cost-effective solutions. Communication: Exceptional ability to explain complex technical issues to non-technical audiences and engage stakeholders.
