International BD & Relationships Manager

As our International Business Development & Relationships Manager, you will play a key role driving the firm's business development efforts through the Global Markets Programme (GMP) with a particular focus on country/regional desks in markets where we do not have offices, our membership of international networks and associations, and our international relationships programme. You will work closely with partners, desks, and BD colleagues to develop and implement business plans that align with the firm's international growth objectives. The GMP falls under the remit of the firm’s Global Relationships Committee (GRC). You will also have the opportunity to meet with referrers and to represent the firm at conferences and networking events. This role reports to the Head of International BD & Relationships, working closely with an International BD & Relationships Executive for whom the Manager will assume day-to-day management responsibilities. The Manager will be part of the broader International BD team, collaborating with colleagues in our international offices as well as the wider central BD, Marketing, Communications, and Relationships functions in London. There will be support from the Head of International BD & Relationships, but this role has a range of free-standing responsibilities. Role and Responsibilities

This is a broad but not exhaustive list: Working with the Head of International BD & Relationships and senior stakeholders across the firm, help to develop and implement the firm’s international relationships and BD strategy and business plans through the Global Markets Programme. This includes: Country/regional ‘desks’ for priority markets where the firm does not have offices Membership of international networks and associations Our international law firm relationships programme Working closely with lead partners for our country/regional desks to deliver a programme of activity in the firm’s key markets (including North America, Africa, Latin America, India, China, Europe, the Caribbean, and Israel) to raise our profile, connections, and business opportunities in the market. This involves building relationships across a range of partners. Working with the Executive, managing internal collaboration meetings, market visits and conferences, events, digital activity, market intelligence, sponsorships, marketing materials, internal communications, legal directories and awards, and relationships with external groups including chambers of commerce and business associations. Tracking and reporting on ROI from desk activity including using feedback from trip reports, monitoring referrals from intermediaries, and tracking new clients and matters from international markets. Networks and Associations

Supporting the firm’s participation in two non-exclusive networks (ALFA International and the AEL), the International Bar Association, and other international groups to connect the firm with international counterparts, raise our profile, and develop new business opportunities. Monitoring and reporting on referrals using the firm’s CRM InterAction, supporting best practices across fee earners and other staff to track inbound and outbound opportunities and wins. Coordinating activity at major network and association events, including the IBA annual conference, advising on and organising appropriate meetings, briefing attendees, organising relevant communications, making the most of content opportunities and driving follow-up. International Law Firm Relationship Programme

Managing the day-to-day operations of the ‘CRS Global Network’ of relationship law firms around the world, connecting our clients to leading local lawyers in key markets. This includes an online directory and app, and relationship activity with key firms to strengthen and deepen connections. Working closely with the Head of International BD & Relationships on the relaunch of the programme in 2025. Budget Responsibilities

Act as the point person for BD budget tracking for the GMP, working alongside the Executive to ensure that campaigns and teams keep to pre-agreed budgets. The Manager will also be expected to analyse BD expenditure to track BD activity against business objectives and ROI, identifying any areas for improvement. Collaboration with Central Teams

Create and implement international marketing campaigns, thought leadership initiatives, and client-focused events, with the support of the Marketing team. Co-ordinate profile-raising activity for the relevant groups – both external and internal, with the support of the Communications team. Providing input to partners and BD teams on cross-border pitches, proposals, and RFP responses, ensuring consistency and high-quality deliverables. Overseeing maintenance and development of the GMP pages on the firm’s intranet page. Other

Reporting monthly on GMP activity to the Global Relationships Committee. Championing a data-driven approach to international BD and relationships (including use of our CRM system InterAction and various financial tools) to ensure data is effectively leveraged to support business plans, new initiatives, and decision making. Identifying, overseeing, and undertaking ad hoc research on markets, sectors, organisations, and individuals of relevance to specific business development initiatives involving clients or referrers. Involvement and support on firm-wide key project work and any other key BD deliverables for the senior management team (Director and Heads). Qualifications and Experience

Experience in an international law firm, possibly supporting the international BD and Relationship efforts of regional desks or practices. An understanding of the importance of referrer networks to international BD strategies. The presence and credibility to represent the Firm at meetings with referrers. Experience of supporting a range of BD activities including international BD trips, conferences, and pitches. A proven track record of delivering/achieving results and targets to strict deadlines. Organisational ability within a pressurised environment. A motivated professional and a quick learner. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Excellent attention to detail and highly proficient proof-reading skills. A team-player mindset, demonstrating an ability to engage colleagues at every level in projects and initiatives, together with an appreciation of varied cultures across different offices. An experienced manager able to lead and inspire people in the team. Able to adapt and respond at short notice. Knowledge of CRM systems (preferably InterAction).
