The Opportunity:
Based within our busy Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) Service at the Hospital for Small Animals at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, this one-year ECC internship is the perfect launching pad for those considering further clinical training in this field, as well as those wishing to return to private practice.
The ECC intern will gain extensive clinical experience in managing critically ill patients whilst working alongside board-certified specialists in ECC. The successful applicant will work a combination of days, evenings, and weekends within a well-equipped Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Room.
The veterinary school has a strong tradition of research, and ECC interns are encouraged to pursue research under the guidance of a mentor. We boast a thriving programme of continuing education within the hospital, including dedicated weekly ECC journal clubs. ECC interns also have the opportunity for electives, which may be spent gaining further clinical or research experience within the veterinary school or undertaking externships elsewhere.
This post is full-time (35 hours per week). This post will be appointed at Grade 6 step 1 which is £33,882 per annum.
Your skills and attributes for success:
Experience of emergency practice and/or rotational internship
Member of RCVS or eligible at time of appointment
Appropriate English language qualification

An internship is a 12-18 month fixed-term position awarded to qualified veterinary surgeons (usually early career) who wish to explore becoming a Specialist by achieving a Specialist qualification. This applies to both small animal and equine internships. The role is heavily supervised by more senior vets and has formal taught components. A 12-month internship rotating through different Specialties is a requirement to be eligible to apply for the next step in Specialist training - a residency.
