About the role In your role as Investment Valuations Manager you will make a meaningful and valued contribution from the outset. This role will provide a great opportunity to support the managing of valuation processes and related projects for the Investment Segment of USS, including the performance of valuations (across both illiquid equity and credit interests), as well as the maintenance of the control environment of scheme asset valuations. What you will be doing As a trusted part of the Finance team, you will be responsible for: Overseeing and performing quarterly valuations of illiquid equity and credit assets Preparing and reviewing valuation reports and Fair Value Committee (FVC) papers Reviewing and analysing business plans and cash flow models Formulating and robustly defending valuation opinions Developing and updating valuation models Collating information and financial data from asset managers, providing relevant challenge where necessary Assisting with the review and challenge of external valuations of equity, credit and property assets Managing and co-ordinating external valuation advisers Assisting with managing and coordinating the submission of reports on valuations and related matters to the FVC, including reports from external valuation advisers and internal stakeholders Managing communications with the FVC, including attending and presenting at Fair Value Committee meetings to provide subject matter expertise and support decision-making as required Managing the monthly roll-forward valuation process for equity and credit assets Managing the delivery of valuation-related projects e.g. periodic deep dive analysis into asset valuations Managing relationships across various departments within USS and with external valuation advisers Supervising and coaching less experienced valuations team members Acting as a key liaison with the Investment Control function and keeping up to date with USS’s private markets deal activity Communicating key judgements and conclusions to the Investment Accounting function Identifying and implementing process and control improvements to increase efficiencies, reduce risk, and/or add value, including implementing internal audit recommendations Managing and co-ordinating audit review of valuations as part of the external audit process Assisting with administrative duties for the Investment Valuations function e.g. documenting procedures and controls, maintaining the valuation policy, risk reporting, supplier engagement, budgeting About you We know that sometimes people can be put off applying for a job if they don't tick every box. To be successful in the role you will have: Professionally Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent), or other relevant financial qualification with significant exposure to investment appraisal techniques (e.g. CFA) Prior experience of performing valuations of both illiquid equity and credit assets as the primary responsibility of a previous or existing role Strong interpersonal, communication and relationship building skills Prior experience of presenting to senior management within an organisation Excellent Excel & financial modelling skills, working with integrated forecast models for large businesses Excellent writing skills and extensive prior experience of drafting valuation reports for varied audiences (e.g. external auditors, committees) Experience of dealing with external clients or influencing at senior level within an organisation At USS, every individual contributes to building a secure financial future for our members and their families.
