Description

SurrealDB is on the lookout for a startup enthusiast to help us build out our IT department, using both a technical and a compliance perspective. This is an exciting opportunity for someone hands-on, but with a holistic vision to help lay out the foundations of a growing business. The ideal candidate would have traditional experience as an IT / Systems administrator in a small or medium business, with some knowledge or interest in developer services & infrastructure. This role will intersect with compliance matters on a short/medium term, so familiarity with the field would be great. If you dabble with coding on the side, or even create APIs for business purposes, and have an appetite for AI, you will feel right at home!

What you will do

Ownership for the IT infrastructure of a 40+ employees company, including: Configuration and deployment of MDM (laptop and phone) and EDR, including providing support to fellow employees SaaS and vendor management Establishing sustainable best practices for the company Adapting all IT-related policies to set standards & best practices Writing documentation to support set of policies Owning and developing our employee device onboarding and offboarding practice in partnership with the People Team Reviewing all current employees IT set up according to standards Providing general IT support to the SurrealDB team (in the London office and online) Managing the IT infrastructure in line with compliance requirements, and supporting certification and audit efforts. Compliance management with Drata, including SaaS and Vendor Management

About you

Proven experience as an IT system administrator or similar, in a startup/scale-up environment or in a changing, fast-paced environment (freelance/contractor experience for example) Strong background in device management (Apple, Linux), and monitoring/EDR solutions SaaS management experience with knowledge of Google Workspace, HRIS (Rippling a plus), (our other key tools are Drata, Slack, Notion, Linear, Github, Intercom) Basic scripting ability (bash, python), and a preference for automation Experience within organisations obtaining compliance certifications and audits (ISO27001, SOC2). Compliance software experience (Drata) a plus. Excellent knowledge and vision of IT best practices An interest in leveraging benefits of AI Problem solving ability and a bias for action Capacity for multitasking Ability to communicate effectively with non-technical people to help them on technical matters We understand that each candidate brings a unique set of skills and experiences, and we encourage applicants to apply even if you do not meet every qualification listed in the job description.

Working setup

We have a hybrid working approach at SurrealDB. We enjoy working and collaborating together and usually require London based people to be in our Oxford Street office three days a week on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. If you’re based outside of London but in the UK, we’re happy for you to visit the office every other week for a day to help with device management from time to time.
