Jessie May delivers community-based palliative nursing care to families caring for children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions across various locations, including South Gloucestershire, Bristol, North Somerset, BANES, Swindon, and Wiltshire. The service delivery hours are 08:00-20:00, including weekends, bank holidays, and overnight on-call as part of the 24/7 end-of-life care provision.

The post holder will coordinate and develop the Jessie May support offer for children and young people with cancer. This will include speaking to relevant teams within the BNSSG locality about the service, developing the service, and obtaining new referrals. Part of the role includes sourcing, undertaking, and training Care Team members to ensure they are confident and competent in caring for oncology children. Occasionally, they will serve as the Duty Lead for the entire service, providing support to Jessie May nurses across all geographical regions. Additionally, the post holder will deliver skilled, holistic nursing care and guidance to children and young people with complex medical needs and support their families. They will also be responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized care to ensure the highest standards of care are met.

The post holder will possess excellent communication skills and demonstrate the ability to build and maintain strong, supportive relationships with the children and families on their caseload. They will work collaboratively and effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including healthcare staff, primary care teams, social services, educational institutions, and other relevant professionals. Their role will be pivotal in ensuring a coordinated, multi-disciplinary approach to care, enhancing the wellbeing of the children and young people under their responsibility while ensuring seamless service delivery across the Jessie May caseload.
