At Mencap we deliver a range of programmes designed to support people with a learning disability and/or autism to move closer to work. In our Inclusive Communities Team, we have a programme called Employ Me, that aims to support people with a learning disability and/or Autism to gain the skills, knowledge and experience to progress into paid employment. Mencap Employ Me are excited to be working with Haringey Council and Grove School to deliver a pre-internship programme of support to young people with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities). It’s an exciting new project aimed at transforming the lives of young people with learning disabilities and/or autism. Considering this, an amazing opportunity has arisen for a passionate and self-motivated person to join our Mencap Employ Me team in Haringey, London. In this team you will provide individually tailored support for young learners to develop skills and knowledge that will develop self-confidence, as well as specific social and work-related skills, so they can be confident to take decisions regarding their next steps. During their work placements within the Haringey Council, you will provide Job Coach support to interns. We are looking for someone to join our team on a full time fixed term (6 months) contract. You will:

Work alongside students in classroom-based learning activities. Work with Haringey Council to develop placement opportunities. Work with team to match interns to placement opportunities. Support and train young learners to ensure they gain practical and competitive work skills. Key skills and requirements (essential):

Experience of working with and supporting learners with disabilities and SEN Knowledge of supported employment programmes Adaptable to work in a range of environments. Effective/accurate record keeping and reporting. Professional conduct and attendance Desirable skills and requirements:

Experience of working in a similar role Experience of working within schools and colleges Working within the community building and developing relationships Using the internet to harness information and experience of using social media.
