An exciting opportunity is available for a highly motivated Band 6 within the Gateshead Urgent Treatment Centres (UTC) working between QE Gateshead UTC and the Blaydon UTC to cover maternity leave on a fixed term basis of 12 months. This is a training and developmental post and training and supervision will be provided.
The successful applicant will need recent, extensive and demonstrable clinical expertise in assessing patients in the acute setting. Close attention should also be given to the essential and desirable qualifications of this role.
The post holder will, with training and supervision, carry a clinical caseload which will be varied and busy, so should be able to work under pressure and manage time and resources effectively. It is therefore essential that the post holder has previous experience of day-to-day clinical leadership and team operational management duties.
You will be a member of the Urgent Treatment Centre team, and will be expected to be committed to personal and team development. You will be expected to carry out clinical education and supervision for junior staff and students within the team. Experience of supervision of a team is essential, as well as being a certificated mentor for student nurses.

The post holder must be able to demonstrate the ability to take on new challenges and will be involved in the continuous shaping and development of the team to meet any changes in service delivery and to ensure a high quality of care to all patients. Previous involvement in service improvement and audit is therefore required. The Trust operates a 7-day service model and the post holder will be required to participate in this. We would offer leadership, Professional Supervision, Peer support, and CPD opportunities. This would ideally suit a current Band 6 nurse looking for a new development opportunity. To provide continuing responsibility in the absence of the band 7 and act in their absence. To provide face-to-face consultation for patients and their carers and to carry out assessment, diagnosis, treatment and/or appropriate referral for minor illness and minor injury. Provides assessment, treatment, and ensures follow-up of patients with undifferentiated diagnosis and make appropriate referrals to other service providers as necessary. Delivers a range of services in a one-stop-shop setting, e.g., assessment, treatment, and supplying of medication through patient group directions as necessary. If practicing as a non-medical prescriber following completion of course, they will ensure safe prescribing and administration of drugs in accordance with current NMC guidelines and Trust Policies. Develop knowledge and practice facilitate the extended role in nursing and work to develop protocols relating to advanced nursing practice and work in the extended nursing role. To perform practical procedures for example: wound closure and other extended skills following training appropriate to the minor injury and illness setting. Ability to perform a range of diagnostic investigations, appropriate interpretation of results and explain these to patients. Informs, educates and uses opportunities during episodes of care, to engage in health promotion activity with patients, e.g., smoking cessation, weight management advice. Keeps accurate records of all consultations. Works with other out-of-hours providers to ensure high-quality effective minor illness and minor injury services at the point of need. Participates in clinical supervision. Liaises with other agencies/providers to ensure the best outcomes for patients. Contribute to the development of services by participating in audits, practice developments, developing protocols relating to advanced practice and the extended role of nursing. Maintain and demonstrate an awareness of current research and legislation and work within the NMC Code of Conduct. Contribute to quality improvement to ensure the highest standards of patient care are achieved at all times in the most effective manner. Ability to initiate a range of diagnostic investigations, appropriate interpretation of results and explain these to patients.
