Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has become available in our Lymington outpatients for a band 6 Junior sister/charge nurse post. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who demonstrates great professionalism, has leadership skills they would like to further develop, and would like to be a part of a growing team. The right candidate will be integral to the growth of the team and the service.

This is a full-time position; part-time might be considered for the right candidate. Lymington outpatients provides a positive work-life balance with clinics currently running from Monday to Friday. Although this is an Ophthalmology outpatients position, knowledge and experience in ophthalmology is not essential—training can be provided. Strong leadership skills will be a positive.

Any successful candidate will have a period of time based in Southampton eye unit to support training, then a requirement of attending some sessions with the senior team in UHS to continue the collaborative work.

The successful applicant will be responsible for assisting the Senior Sister in the management of the Lymington eye OPD department, ensuring high standards of care are maintained and available resources are used efficiently. You will be able to demonstrate clinical expertise, acting as a role model within Clinical specialty and facilitating a good learning environment for staff and learners.

What you will do:

To supervise the professional work of nursing staff and exercise good leadership skills. Support the team to monitor the quality of patient care and participate in the regular evaluation of patient satisfaction. To act as a mentor to new staff, learners, and post-registration students. To participate in the recruitment and selection of new staff. Empower the team to highlight areas for change and development.

Lymington Eye outpatients is a dynamic department that continues to change and develop, requiring the successful applicant to be flexible, forward-thinking, and have the skills to motivate and provide positive support. The ability to supervise, teach, empower, and coach staff is essential for this role.

We are looking for experienced, dedicated nurses who are looking to further their management development and gain/develop leadership skills in a supportive environment. The successful candidate will need to be highly motivated, professional, flexible, trustworthy, and a positive role model.

Due to the nature of this role and service, this role is on-site and the hours are as advertised.

Qualified Nurse (Degree/Diploma) Registered nurse on appropriate part of the register Significant post-registration experience/qualification/training, including experience and knowledge within relevant specialty Ward management experience Knowledge of current issues within acute Health Service Experience in an acute hospital setting Provide evidence of supporting/managing a range of learners in practice Ability to demonstrate clinical decision-making and judgment Commitment to the post and Care Group responsibilities Commitment to continuing professional development
