The Coronary Care unit at St Bartholomew’s Heart Centre is currently recruiting for a Band 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse to join the existing team. We are looking for experienced coronary care nurses to join our busy

unit that cares for a wide variety of cardiology patients including those admitted through our busy emergency Heart Attack and Direct Arrhythmia pathways. You will need significant experience in cardiology and be able to demonstrate advanced clinical knowledge. You will be expected to take an active role in helping us to continuously improve on our patient centred care. Excellent communication skills are essential with a proven ability to support and mentor staff. You will have an opportunity to rotate internally between Cardiology Intervention and Electrophysiology in order to develop a full range of skills and be supported with in house training and a mentorship programme. Part of the country’s largest Heart centre, the Education, training and development are an important philosophy of the units and access is provided to courses both in-house and at partner universities. 3A CCU is lucky enough to have their own dedicated Education Sister who supports all staff in their development and works closely with new starters. Applicants will be expected to support the Senior Sister and Charge Nurse both clinically and operationally with the role offering significant development opportunities for the successful candidate. The Junior Sister / Junior Charge Nurse provides the highest standard of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualised, holistic patient care as part of the multi-disciplinary team. The band 6 junior sister / junior charge nurse acts as a role model and clinical teacher, and displays effective leadership and preceptorship to the nursing and non-nursing team. The junior sister / junior charge nurse takes charge of the coronary care unit as required, liaising closely with the senior sister / senior charge nurse with continuing responsibility. Qualifications

RN NMC registration. Cardiac / HDU specialist modules or working towards same. Intravenous accreditation. Mentorship course or equivalent. Immediate Life Support (ILS). Experience

Experience in coronary care unit nursing. Experience with shift coordination. Experience providing direct supervision to junior nursing staff and students. Experience identifying learning needs of others and actively supporting professional development. Experience with performance management. Experience with roster writing. Skills

Good interpersonal skills. Demonstrates clear and effective verbal and written communication skills. Rhythm recognition and 12 lead ECG interpretation skills. Ability to identify and respond to deteriorating patients. Ability to prioritise clinical work effectively. Ability to carry out essential and appropriate nursing care and procedures. Ability to work as a team member. Ability to manage own workload. Ability to work under pressure with enthusiasm and positivity. Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing workload. Ability to respond positively to constructive criticism. Ability to offer constructive suggestions for service improvements. Ability to support others in maintaining health, safety, and security. Ability to identify and take action when own or other’s undermines equality and diversity. Effectively carry out tasks related to evaluating services when asked.
