An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 SACT nurse to join CTU as a Junior Sister. The Junior Sister will have delegated responsibilities for the management of the clinical area, the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care, and the setting of standards on a shift basis and in the authorised absence of the Ward manager, as well as being a trained SACT nurse. The Junior Sister will participate in innovation and evidence-based nursing practice through professional leadership and supporting the clinical team in close liaison with the ward manager and the clinical nurse educator. The Junior Sister will act as a credible and professional role model and encourage and empower other staff to develop both personally and professionally to achieve their maximum potential, and take on the leadership of specific projects as agreed with the Ward Manager and Lead SACT Nurse.

Main duties of the job

Facilitate communication, which results in clear responsibilities being identified within the multi-professional team. Exchange verbal and written information with patients, staff, and carers requiring tact and diplomacy, ensuring that all barriers to understanding are overcome by using differing strategies to meet individual needs. Deputise for the ward manager at Directorate/Divisional meetings and working groups. Uphold the values of the ward, promoting openness, transparency, and learning. Support the ward manager with HR tasks such as sickness monitoring and return to work. Ensure that patient concerns are addressed on the ward/department and work with the Patient Advisory and Liaison Service (PALS) and patient forums. Participate in the resolution of complaints/adverse incidents and implement action plans to prevent re-occurrence.

Job responsibilities

The Junior Sister will act as a credible and professional role model and encourage and empower other staff to develop both personally and professionally to achieve their maximum potential.

You will need to be up to date on all statutory and mandatory training and all competencies to be able to practice.

All applicants will be expected to meet the essential band 6 criteria and possess the relevant post-registration experience as outlined in the person specification.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Current NMC registration. Recognised qualification in teaching and assessing, or evidence of delivering teaching. Systemic anti-cancer Therapy (SACT) Passport.

Desirable

Health Related Degree or currently working towards. Leadership experience.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

2 Years Post Registration Experience within Oncology or Haematology. Demonstrable clinical expertise, relevant to SACT administration. Understanding of the issues pertaining to change management.

Desirable

Experience of leading clinical or environmental change.

Skills

Essential

Ability to organise and manage day-to-day departmental activities and the activities of a large multidisciplinary team. Communication skills - able to relate and communicate with patients and staff at all levels and from different professions. Adapts communication style as necessary and is able to work with and through others. Team building and working skills - able to lead a team to achieve results. Problem-solving skills - able to respond to unexpected issues and provide first line response and to identify appropriate sources of secondary support.

Desirable

Experience of supporting governance agenda.
