Job Description

Labcorp Drug Development is currently seeking a Clinical Veterinarian to join their team. At our Harrogate, UK facility, there are openings for Veterinarians of all levels. Reporting to the Director / Site Lead Veterinarian, the incumbent will provide veterinary health care for laboratory animals, give advice regarding the care and maintenance of laboratory animals, and provide training for technicians.

The Harrogate location is our largest pre-clinical site in the UK. The site is in a central location within walking distance of the town centre and close to all public transport, which includes train station and bus stops (providing quick access to Leeds, York and Manchester).

Additional key responsibilities include:

Provide laboratory animal medical and surgical care by examination, treatment and advice to ensure adequate and humane veterinary support, with minimal supervision/mentoring.

Assist supervisor to ensure that company policies and practices regarding animal care and welfare are in compliance with relevant regulations.

Assist in training of staff including, where applicable, annual externship program.

Serve on the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, as needed.

Perform physical examinations of laboratory animals as indicated in protocols and SOP.

Perform ophthalmic or other veterinary examinations on laboratory animals.

Report all animal care concerns and become involved in the resolution and appropriate corrective action, when necessary.

Participate in client conference calls and visits.

Manage projects and complex cases independently.

Develop skills related to client-requested veterinary procedures (e.g., skin biopsies, bone marrow samples, CSF collection, anesthesia techniques).

Mentor veterinarian I and veterinary and animal operations staff.

Learn to provide scientific expertise on animal health, biology, physiology, and research methodology to staff scientists and technicians.

Education:

Graduate of RCVS accredited veterinary school or equivalent.

Experience:

3 years of veterinary clinical experience preferred.

For UK positions: membership in the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

Knowledge of small and large animals used in research.

Must be able to work in a laboratory setting with laboratory animals.
