Contract: 6 months

Rate: £20ph - PAYE

This is a temporary role as a Laboratory Analyst. You will work as part of the Analytical, Calibration, Metallographic, and Benchtop Chemistry teams. The department duties can vary and offer scope for further multi-skilling and development, primarily including:

Preparation of samples for analysis in solid or liquid form using ICP. Preparing and testing material for hardness and examining its surface/grain structure using various types of microscopes (e.g., inverted microscope and SEM). Using benchtop chemistry techniques to quantify elements in various material forms and chemically treating alloys of impurities. Conducting analysis and testing from a Quality perspective to ensure products meet specifications in terms of content and impurities prior to dispatching to customers and production. Preparation and calibration for temperature measurement products for both samples and finished products.

Responsibilities include: Ensuring all regulations (EHS and security) are strictly observed. Preparing samples for analysis submitted by approved procedures with due regard to required accuracy, precision, and delivery times. Preparing standard stock solutions and calibration standards as required. Disposing of Volumetric Flasks of completed test samples appropriately and ensuring consumables are stocked to minimum levels. Carrying out routine analysis/tests on samples. Preparing samples for ICP-OES analysis by approved procedures. Running samples on ICP-OESs with varying ablation techniques. Analyzing material using XRF microfocus. Ensuring work is performed at minimum cost by making efficient use of time, equipment, and materials. Maintaining the integrity of samples and processes. Performing regular checks on equipment and ensuring they are tested before due dates expire. Supporting production by ensuring wash/acid tank levels are filled and at the correct concentration. Calibrating furnaces throughout the factory. Pickling material in the required acid solution to remove impurities. Attending approved training courses as requested. Maintaining housekeeping within the laboratory.
